I had always tought that it's great when parents show an intrest in what any of kids want to pursue as a career and that they would be supportive.

There are limits mind, people who push to live thier fantasy out via thier kids
even when their kids are adults.

There are times I do think I'm not shocked that easily and then I see something like this...

    http://jezebel.com/384994/father-gives-daughter-bikini-waxes-rides-to-work-at-a-brothel
Today's episode of Tyra was about women who are looking to become legal prostitutes in Nevada. One particularly ****ed up segment featured Summer, a pretty 18-year-old who is an "up and coming" adult film actress about to start working at the infamous Moonlight Bunny Ranch. Summer's father is also her manager, and he not only talked her into working at the brothel, but gives her Brazilian bikini waxes. Almost more insane? They actually show him doing it. Now, I'm pro-porn and pro-sex work, and I feel like people should be allowed to make their own choices when it comes to how they want to make their money. But maybe I'm not as progressive as I thought I was, because this **** is just wrong. Oh, and when Summer is shown crying when her dad drops her off at the brothel? He says, "you forgot something," and you think he's gonna give her words of encouragement or a hug, but instead, he hands her a giant bottle of lube.

Eh, that's pretty wrong. An everyday Mr. Frtizl in the making there.

That is one of the most horrific things I've ever seen on tv...

I mean honestly - does Tyra seriously think she can get away with wearing pants like that with thighs like hers?!?

Facetiousness aside, there are few things that cause me to be genuinely disturbed but I think that was one of them. I don't have sound but I could get the general jist all the same. It's tantamount to child abuse and is, frankly, a most horrific misuse of the child-parent trust relationship. He's disgusting.

Well she has to be at least 18 if not 21 to work in a brothel and get her licence
so it's not child abuse but it would be to my mind abuse of a parental relationship.

I thought that swine kiddnapping and impregnating his daughter resulting in 6 kids was the lowest a man could get but this is just about up there with it to .

I couldnt watch a clip or anything but reading about it was enough. Im all for a persons freedom to do what they like, and so can accept that someone might see porn as a valid career choice even if I wouldnt choose it myself. However, this is not free choice, its another instance of projection and messed up controlling behaviour. Yes that guy with his daughter in the cellar is one end of the scale, but this guy is up at that end of the ruler with him. If this guy was not her father you would call him for what he is. A pimp.

But you see it all over the place. I think those preteen beauty pageants and pushy showbiz moms are another example of parents pushing their neediness and ambition onto their children. Seriously deranged.

The fact that she was crying leaves me thinking that it was far from her idea and as such perhaps he has pressured her into doing it, even if he hasn't there is the possibility he has been rather negative on her throughout her life to undermine any self esteem she might have so she'd just do what he says. I'm also left wondering if he's "taking liberties" under the pretence of training her for the job, horrific, but at least it would definitely give them something to arrest him for.

On the off chance however that she genuinely through her own reasoning and weighing up the pros and cons in an informed manner has chosen this career then it's her right to choose. I would still suggest that they perhaps need to establish some boundaries between her and her dad, but again if it has nothing to do with pressure or manipulation from him I can't really say that what I would view as a healthy relationship is definitely better than what they might view as one.

TBH this story reminds me of the documentary on a year or two ago about women who refused to ween their kids, as such some were ~9 or 10 years old and still breastfeeding. Hard to tell in a documentary since they'll edit things and take things out of context at times but throughout I got the sense that it was more the mother's choice to continue to continue breastfeeding than the kid's in most of the cases, as in the mothers were trying to get the kids to continue it, not that the kids were trying to get the mothers to do so. Once the kids hit the teens there seemed to be a tendancy for them to stop, possibly due to "teenage rebellion" helping them say "no". Again, if it were the kids who were making the decision, without any nudging from the parents, while it might seem rather odd to me, it is their right to live as such and for all I know it might be a healthier relationship than what I would consider the healthy social norm.

Cripes... I mean I don't mind girls choosing that line of work, and great if the parents don't mind, but having your father doing all that is just wrong.

I don't know which distrubs me more - him being her manager or him doing the waxing?!

    Thats sick alright.

Did they offer any support to Summer in this or did they just film them to boost ratings?

I imagine a lot of grooming went into this...

alright, now I don't want to alarm anyone, but frankly, the whole waxing thing doesn't freak me out that much. If he's actually trained(I'm assuming some kind of beautician), I say ok. Come on, they're clearly not well off, and waxes can be seriously expensive. If you know someone who'll do it for free, you're probably going to take them up on that. As previously mentioned, I'm reasonably positive my father doesn't know I have a vagina, but we have a great grown-up relationship and if he got was hurling around professional waxes, I probably wouldn't object.
(Totally OT for a sec, but why is he using strips on her bikini line? Is this not a hot waxing situation?!)
Anywho, what is really disturbing is her crying on the way there. And the lube, oh god, the lube! Their relationship is way-off grown-up: she's 18 for the love of god! I'm all for women making their own choices, and I'd even say 18 is old enough, if, say, you've been on the streets since you were 13 and it seems like the only way to make money. However, that's clearly not true of this girl. It looks like she still lives with her parents, she's still in the "child" role, and an 18 occupying that role on a daily basis is of course going to be influenced by daddy. Total perve, imo.

In my opinion one's father's hands around one's flange, professional or not, is just wrong.

But actually I don't think that film is real. There have been cases where stories like this on chat shows were really just set-ups for maximum shock effect.

Oh My God. That is awful. The poor girl. I'm only a year older than her and my dad wasn't even happy when I brought my boyfriend home to meet them. The last thing he wants is for me and my sisters to be seen as anything other than his daughters. That is a really messed up relationship there. I hope she sees sense and gets away from him. :(

Eh, honestly wouldn't bother me that much.
OT: kudos on the use of the word flange.

Flange is an important word :)

I agree. It was too 'set up' and guaranteed to get a reaction. The tears were a nice touch, but they sent it over the top.
**edit** I don't doubt for a second however that there are nuts like this.
