When you are dealing with XX,000kh of jet fuel, response time is important. :)

OK, flip side, would the garda want some of the jobs they do? Static guards, checkpoints, parking*, etc.

    * Its nigh impossible to get the Garda interested in parking matters if an area has parking wardens or clampers, unless it actually constitutes a danger to traffic.

We do all those things as it is and the only static post in the airport is immigration and customs control which is done by Gardai and customs.

As for parking, Gardai dont have clamps or towtrucks for parking offences so Im not sure what it is you expect from us in this regards. Clampers were brought in for a reason.

I think the earlier poster was referring to the static posts that APFS do, i.e the post on the forecourt, the post on the gates into what used to be Team Aer Lingus and a number of other static posts.

Metman, they don't man some of those points anymore. A lot of them are manned by the ASU - Airport Search Unit.

Even the forecourt post!? Last time I was home there was still a PF on that post......unless I'm losing the plot completely (always a possibility) :p

Its what used to be called post 1. Its still manned by APFS. I think most of the internal posts have been handed over to security guards.

Couple of my mates worked in the APFS, one of whom left to go to AGS.

APFS have some posts left, like at team and most airside entraces, for appearences sake, inside these post ASU's handle x-raying and metal detecting.

Some other posts still held by apfs, like entrance to arrivals rd which is restriced to busses, taxis airport vehciles etc.

The guy on the departure rd at the zebra crossing is gone, replaced by in effect two lolly pop men, presence still there to stop people parking.

APFS still do foot patrol within the terminal and do mobile patrols of perimiters, escorts of vehicles airside (vehicles there on a once off with no pass and driver with no airside training eg ambualnces etc)

and they still do a great job of messing up traffic by trying to direct it :P

Possibly not a fair comment - lots of people have been rejected by the Garda despite having good policing skills / qualifications, e.g. people who were "underheight".

Note that the Airport Police do other tasks like fire fighting, which wouldn't fit in with the Garda.

There is also the risk of them being dragged off to do other tasks.

And finally, the Exchequer would need to pay them instead of the airport authorities.
just a few questions in relation to airport police, age limit, education (leaving cert etc?),training or any thing else you think i might need to know.I am 45 and have spent the last 21 years in the defence forces looking for a career change. thanks hope you can help?

I have done a search on this an found absolutely nothing, you might want to give DAA HR a call and let us know how you get on

Just to throw a spanner in the works,do airport police also offer an ambulance service? If so are any emergency calls dealt with on site and transported to A+E or are Dfb/Nas called in

Airport ambo transports when available. They are phecc registered paramedics who operate on it as far as i know, switching between duties.

Yep they transport, and like dfb can send the "domestic crew" appliance or one of their police patrol cars or footpatrols as first response if ambulance is not available and dfb/nas are called.

Their cars must be equipped with defibs too as i heard them dealing with a cardiac arrest in one of the car parks one night.

Seems to me the OP started this thread just to denigrate the AP.

Just a quick question, not having a go or anything. Are the airport police an actual police force? I seem to remember a few years ago that garda had taken issue with them being called police.
