Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Quite intresting that Valencia have a 159% Debt/Value rate. Any normal company would be bancrupt. How do they manage to stay afloat?

In the process of building the most fantastic stadium. Only club on the list building, so an expensive time.

Some surprising ommisions. Would have thought that AC would have been there, Stutgart have been around the top of the German league for a while now and the ommission of all the dutch and portuguese clubs yet the inclusion of Celtic.

Just out of interest how is the valuation reached. The assets of certain clubs would be worth more than their valuations (e.g. Man City's stadium and players would be worth more than the total shown)

Do the club own the stadium though? Or is it leased off of Manchester City Council?

I'm not sure, anyway it was just an example. The same would probably apply to Villa. So much land in a residential area of Birmingham

No we don't own the land or the stadium. It's leased from the council.

TBH, these lists mean fack all to me. Look at Liverpool. Everyone knows that they are leveraged up to the hilt, and are going to have to start pumping oodles more cash to get this stadium built. Whereas the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle, Man City and Villa are all debt free, and have owners with a fair few quid in their back pocket. I wouldn't treat this list as being any sort of indication as to who has the spending muscle.

Really? Didn't hear too many laughs coming from the red corner of the ground back in August.

Interesting. Surprsied to see liverpool in there. Their high level of debt will go up even more if the new stadium goes ahead, unless DIC buy them.

August - awesome 7-2 win for United. Saha and Fletcher getting hattricks and O'Shea adding the 7th. good times.

How many Dutch or Portugese clubs have Celtics merchandising operation, pay-per-view deals, 57,000 season ticket holders, guaranteed CL football and billionaire owner underwriting their debt?

Hmmm pity the facts show different.

As for that 100% record you spoke of having there, it's actually 40%.

What makes the inclusion of Liverpool surprising?

PSV virtually have guaranteed Champions' League football with the added benefit of a highler level of success in the tornament.Keep in mind that Scotland have only had two places for a couple of years so it's not as if Celtic have relied on CL income throughout their history. Ajax have one of the best youth setups in the world meaning they get alot in transfer fees without spending that much. I would have thought that their success in the 90s would have meant a bigger merchandising operation than Celtic's (obviously Ireland is hardly an unbias example) and a noteriety that they couldn't match. Also, Holland is a very very rich country compared to Scotland meaning they can probably charge more at the gate (although Holland could employ the German "cheap ticket" system).

Porto, Benfica both have a much better european history than Celtic meaning they too are probably better known around the world (considering Porto's recent success that's a given for them) giving them more merchandising potential (Adu playing for Benfica gives them a big market as well). They also sell players at a greater value then Celtic and can buy Brazilian players on the cheap and in their droves not to mention that (this season maybe looking like an exception) the big 3 always are guaranteed CL football.

It's shocking that 4 years ago both United and Liverpool had no debt, and now they both have debt/value ratios of 60% which were solely due to takeover costs. I still can't believe the British government let them away with this, shocking state of affairs

Not much they could do really. United were a plc so market conditions apply and Liverpool's owner, given a punt on a 2 horse race select the 2-legged American donkey instead of the Dubai thoroughbred :(
