Just read this story today on another forum and found the article for it.
Painter and Lewis were scheduled to square off at the oche for the quarter final match of the Amsterdam Casino Open Holland Masters, but when their verbal bickering to each other escalated to a more physical confrontation, security ended up escorting Painter out of the area and now both players could face a three month ban from the sport.

    The Sun:

Both were disqualified from the event and the incident has been reported to the Darts Regulation Authority.

A tournament official said: "There was a lot of verbals between the players when they got on stage.

"Then it got a bit out of hand as they squared up but it was handbags really — nothing malicious.

"Security manhandled Painter out of the main area."

The article went on to say that Lewis has protested to the PDC about being disqualified, but as of yet the PDC is refusing comment on the issue.

Recently two other PDC players, Jason Clark and Andy Jenkins, were banned for a year with nine months of the banning being suspended, and should Lewis and Painter face the same punishment, they could miss the US Open, the UK Open, and the Las Vegas Desert Open.

I have never heard of this kind of thing happening before on stage and I'm very surprised. i know Painter gets riled up pretty easy but didn't think it would ever turn physical. Will be a big blow to both players because they will miss some big money tournaments and could fall down the rankings because of it.

    Mad stuff altogether.

I would be more accustomed to seeing this sort of thing happen away from the stage at tournaments of a much lower standard.

Three months is going to cost these clowns some major bank.

What will happen Lewis's Prem league semi's spot if he gets his ban in the next 3 weeks?

No idea what will happen but surely he won't be allowed to play? I reckon Mardle who came fifth would probably take his place.

I've looked around a few darts forums and the consensus seems to be that Lewis will play in the semifinal of the PL. He seems to have been marginally less guilty than KP from what I've read.

the premier league has nothing to do with the pdc tour as it is really a glorified exhibition that carries no ranking points.

because of this i cant see lewis's place being under threat

How Chris Mason was'nt one of the two fighting players remains a mystery to me.

edit: probably because he didnt qualify for the tournament.

Well they have both been fined and suspended. Neither will miss the matchplay though.

    From Planetdarts.
Lewis has been handed a six-month ban, with four months suspended, and fined £400 after being found guilty of using offensive language, using threatening behaviour towards his opponent and recklessly disregarding the Tournament Director's instructions.

Painter, who was charged with the same offences, has been banned for three months, with two months suspended, and fined £200.

Raymond Barneveld was fined £250 for behaviour likely to bring the sport of darts into disrepute at the Blue Square UK Open in June.

He apparently threw water into an area where members of the public could have been present.

Why did Lewis get a bigger ban than Painter? Seems strange. Also if they are both banned then they should both miss the Matchplay. It won't hurt either of them that much if they don't miss any majors.

The Barney fine is laughable although £250 is not gonna hurt his pocket too much!

Apparently after Lewis throwing his final three darts he walked down the middle of the oche. Painter was going to be throwing for the winning double and it started from there and neither would listen to the tournament referee.

So it appears the the Lewis punishment is bigger because he started the row in the first place.

I agree with you, its no more than a slap on the wrist for them as its the tv tournaments which provide the most financial reward. Lewis will miss a couple of players championship events in September and Painter will miss none as August is a month off.
