Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is there anywhere nice to go in the middle of the country?

As we live by the coast, we usally tend to stay by the coast when away for a weekend. And as we are from the northwest, it's usually around that area as well.

Now, Irish weather being what it is, more often than not the weather in the NW is worse than everywhere else and it could be quite decent inland when it's tipping and dull here.

So every now and then I get thinking that we should maybe head inland rather than up or down the coast.

But wherever to? The sunny southeast is too far for a weekend. Is there anything else to see/do in the middle-ish of Ireland other than the telescope in Birr? :D

Now what's wrong with the telescope? grand part of the country!!!! In Laois there's Emo Court here's a link. Vickerstown isn't far from there and Abbeyleix quiet a nice town too. In fact there's a nice choice on the HeritageIreland website.
Portumna has a nice forest park and popular for wild camping at the marina.
Athlone is good for pottering around and Clonmacnoise (crap parking due to traveller traps). Kids love the Bogtrain , don't let the name put you off.
I know it not the Midlands but if you fancy relieving some stress this weekend there's the World Stone Throwing Competition in Corofin, here's a link :D

10 points for effort, stapeler ...but nothing that could lure me away from a nice, quiet spot with a seaview so far.

Okay, time to be more specific.....any interests/hobbies? ie. castles, scuba diving, boating, dancing????? before I start grilling Sligo:D Have you considered Boyle and LoughKey forest park and see if the site there has improved?

    Interests ..nothing specific.
Just looking for somewhere nice, with a bit of scenery (or something else to look at), a tad remote so that you don't get killed for bringing three dogs, but possibly not too remote to make it to a pint or some food on foot.

(we usually end up at a pier somewhere for all of the above reasons :D)

Lough Key/Boyle is too close ...that's Sunday afternoon drive/walk territory for cases of sudden, unsuspected nice weather

Don't feel rushed now :o ...this weekend were coasting again ..t'was more a general sort of question

Around the Sileve Blooms in Laois/Offaly is lovely. Kinnity, Cadamstown. Lots of space and long forest walks. Not at all busy either and well worth a look.

The site just out of Killaloe is nice - on the edge of Lough Derg, with a pub on site. But it did seem a bit quiet the last time I was there.
