    Hi

I am a non expert planning a website launch looking for some giudance.

How can I arrange to collect payments in the Irish market and overseas for services offered on the site?

I've read a little on Paypal. Opening a business account there would seem to cover most eventualities, right ?

Paypal doesnt seem to cover laser cards however how is this arranged?

Do any particular security measures be taken or budgeted for ?

    Any other considerations ?

    Thanks,
    Spin

Real-time Automatic credit card transaction processing by a website is achieved through a Payment Gateway

When a credit card order is placed through a website using a payment gateway, the credit card details are sent securely by the website directly to the payment gateway.

The credit card details are then verified by the payment gateway through a direct connection with the users bank to validate and check for available funds. Once these details have been checked and OK’d the transaction is processed and completed, the funds are automatically transferred to your account.

If you are processing orders on a larger scale, or who must also be able to accept orders by phone, fax and postal mail, it is often more cost-effective to obtain a credit card merchant account. A credit card merchant bank clears the transactions for you and deposits them nightly in your company's checking account.

There are usually monthly minimum fees, in addition to a percentage of each transaction, also known as the "discount rate," and typically a small per-transaction fee as well. Usually these fees compare favorably with PayPal's fees. Also, you are able to dispute chargebacks more easily with a merchant account.
Do any particular security measures be taken or budgeted for
Yes a security cert. is a must and an independent ip address then configuration your website for accepting payment.
