So since the start of the year as far as I remember I havent finished one book. Sure i've started a lot of them but I havent finished any of them. So i'm hoping to improve on this (wouldnt be hard).

These are fairly short books coming in at only about 100 pages a piece, which is pretty much why I chose them. Lets me ease back in to reaing.

I've also managed to make my reading easier by obtaining them in ebook format and reading them on my mobile. Makes it much easier to get a chapter or two in when waiting for something !

Thoughts:
Whilst not a very bad read not something I would either recommend or return to. The third book was a bit of a slog as I found it pretty uninteresting. Very easy reading throughout and a nice way to let me take up my reading quota.

Although I know its aimed at "Young Adult" readers I had hoped it to be a bit like His Dark Materials in that it worked on a couple of levels, sadly not. Oh well a start is a start !

Thoughts:
This series is'nt gripping me all that much, its very by the books in terms of content. Heroine coming of age develops magical powers, prophecies and her going off to overthrow some dark lord. I've started it so ill try to finish it out, but to be honest trying to finish of the first book even seemed a fair amount of effort. Also the Author seems to have some love interest with apostrophes and uses them in every second characters name, place name and so on. Which can pet pretty damn annoying.

Also jumping in and out of Malazan Book of the fallen 1 - Gardens of the Moon. Think this is my second time trying to read this one ? Gets an awful lot of praise but i'm finding it a bit of a struggle to get into it unfortunately

I just had to comment on this.
I read that book in a week. Couldn't put it down.
Are you by any chance still in the first 100 pages or so? If that's the case it really kick starts at around 110 or so.
Am on the 3rd book at the moment and they are just getting better and better!

I know I was surprised that I couldn't get into it myself after reading so many good reviews. I think i'm somewhere in the high 200's page wise ?

I'll give it my full attention after I finish off the current series. I have the first two of the malazan in paperback and the rest of the series on ebook format I think.

Its excellently written but I just didn't find it captivating me for some reason. Hopefully it will pick up as I get to the second book though. I'm still looking for something to rival a song of ice and fire

Thoughts:
So I fancied a change of scenery this week, something completely different to break up the series of books i'm currently reading. So after seeing people raving about it around boards and in other places I got my hands on a copy of Neil Strauss' - The Game. Supposedly a work of non-fiction that delves into the world of so-called "pick up artists".

Not normally what i'd read at all. I went through it at a reasonable pelt, I found it surprisingly interesting but not something i'd go back to. I have reasonable doubts that this is a non-fiction work, unsurprisingly.

Cringe-worthy mind chewing gum is what i'm going to have to call on this one I think. At least ill know what people are saying on the (multiple) threads on AH and the like that reference the book now though

Interesting, quite shocking in places and definitely one to make the reader think. I think this should be recommended reading for anyone who hasn't already.

Back to the 4th Banned and Banished book now. I will get through those eventually.

Thoughts:
Another one off my "To Read List". For the most part I found 2001 to be very interesting, however due to my own faults of not reading Sci-fi very much I found the imagery very hard to visualise at times and as a result founf the last 1/3 of the book tough enough reading.

The famous scene with HAL will forever remain as one of the most tense passages I have ever read.


I have the sequels 2010, 2061 and 3001 as well but am unsure if I will continue with them ?

Can anyone who has read them tell me if they are worth continuing with ?

Yet another I have been meaning to read with a long time. Possibly the most interesting of all the ones I have read so far to be truthful. "Androids" did take me a bit to get into (possibly the futuristic concept again, I seem to have problem getting my head around those initially for some reason) but once it got moving I couldn't put it down. Very interesting and quite fast paced.

Glad to be finished that Banned and Banished series. Didnt do it for me at all really and was a bit of a struggle to finish out. Very predictable reading too.

Have heard some people recommend the prince of nothing series so giving that a blast now. Too early on to form an opinion on it as of yet.

This is another re-read for me. I read the initial 5/6 books before the series was complete. Went back to finish it when the series was finally done but got annoyed with it while trying to re-read the first ones so gave up. Going to finish it off this time, just to say I finished the series. Its still a bit grating though.

Hopefully my total books read this year should be well up thanks to the ebook reader my lovely g/f got me for xmas. Bloody delighted with that so I was.

My younger brother recently got me reading graphic novels, always thought of them as kiddy comic things but with Watchmen coming up I decided to dig it up and have a read and I have to say I think these might be overlooked by a lot of people just because they are in an animated form (I ashamedly was in that camp myself until recently). Going to track these seperately from my main novels list as I intend to read quite a few of these over the course of the year too

Really not sure what to make of this one. It left me with a feeling of "WTF, is that it ?". There was no character development, a hell of a lot going on that didnt really have anything to do with any kind of plot (which was barely existant in the first place). Yet and for all that i've started reading the second book in the series, ill decide if i'm goign to stick with it or not then, there's 15 books in the series but i'm already feeling doubtful ill make it the entire way through them all.

Really enjoyed it, its got such a great style to it and is an absolute pleasure to read even though the narrative style bogged me down a bit for the first few chapters until I got used to it. For a book that is set in such a restrictive environment too it doesnt get old. I particularly enjoyed

The two variations of the story he told to the Japanese in the last few chapters, thought that was a fantastic idea

Finished "The Road" just now, quite short but good nonetheless. A very disjointed (or want of a better word) writing style though which I found broke the book down a bit and didnt allow it to flow properly. Which seemed to suit the style of the book anyway. Some excellent imagery too the awful

image of the infant being cooked

is one that will be at the back of my mind for a whiel I reckon.

Should finish up on Love all the people later today too.

Think ill leave the Saga of Recluse books too (may or may not finish this one). I just cant make myself like them at all. They're the sort of books where you hate all the characters and dont really care what they do and as a result really detaches you from the book.
