So as few of you might have read in my previous post- (chainreactions...arggh) i was having problems contacting chainreactions after receiving a bike with missing parts. After numerous attempts at emailing and phonecalls over the span of a week, I finally made contact. After an email conversation was had, a solution was made to have my bike collected by them on Friday 2nd (nearly 3 1/2 weeks since placing the original order) to have repaired, replaced and returned.Grand...all was looking good. That was until after taking a whole day off college, sitting in the house, obviously chainreactions was a no show.Feeling absolutely feedup of being treated like crap, I sent them an email to the effect of-'If you do not collect the bike by close of business on tuesday, then I am marching to the bank first thing on wednesday to cancel my payment'. Which I have been informed is still retrievable even after this period....thoughtsss

it's not chain reactions that would be collecting the bike, rather parcelforce or dhl or something similar - they are the ones that had the no-show.
still very annoying though, and at this stage I'd probably be looking for a full refund.

Yeah I understand man, but its still up to them to get it collected.Im pretty feed up at this stage and would strongly discourage anyone from using them..ill keep you posted on next weeks events

afaik they state that YOU pay to send it back:confused::confused:

its GLS that they use to ship in the republic, get onto them and ask, you will only get it collected wednesday at the earliest.

on a side, i got my bits friday, had the bike built a hour later, and its sweet, ive built a bike for e848 that in the shops would cost the guts of e2 grand:eek::D:D:D:D

They told me that they were sending someone to pick it up on friday so i did expect someone on friday.also paying to send the bike back when it arrives incomplete doesnt make sense

i dont understand why they dont just send you a replacement lever:confused:
i mean they are "the biggest supplier" in europe:D

alot easier than sending bikes up and down.

they didnt know that the bike was damaged, when i build bikes from boxes ive seen some NASTY stuff happen to new bikes.
ifrom where i see i, you are saving alot of cash on the RRP of the bikes compared to a lcb, and forfeiting the PDI stage of the transaction is reflected in the price.

ask them to send you the new lever and fit it yourself:)

its the GLS companies fault, not chainreaction that nobody came(unless gls wernt told).

its a handy enough fix tbh.

If CRC said they would come to collect then it is their responsibility to ensure GLS or which ever courier they use comes to collect.

After over 10 years of using CRC I too am disgusthed with their customer service and there prices have increased over the years where they are no longer as competetive as they used to be. Anymore I use either cyclesuperstore, evans or ebay first and only CRC when I have to.

I got a park cable cutters on ebay for €10 less then CRC and that includes shipping from the states. Also picked up some tubes from England on ebay and saved a few euro.

I wouldn't accept this; other online shops like Wiggle build the bikes up completely (and very well) and would have noticed anything missing.

I can understand how it can happen as CRC don't even open the box but if they sent the bike out incomplete it is up to them to right it.

CRC are truly the Ryanair of bike shops; once you understand this your dealings with them will be much more relaxing (I buy a lot from them myself but I would think twice before buying another bike; still would if it was a cracking bargain like the last one, or if I was more mechanically competent though...)

Course they are just up in Norn Iron so could drive up and collect the bike perhaps..

    very very good point.

well from years of working in bike shops and dealing with the general public, i have concluded that you get what you pay for, tbh id rather a bit of hassle and save a grand or so(which is the case with my last purchase) than spend the extra grand just so the shop can be nice for a hour to me. if anything went wrong im sure the shop wouldnt be as nice(maybe not as nasty as CRC).

there is a reason why shops are more expensive, i.e, your paying for knowlede and advice.

how do wiggle ship the pdi'd bike, is it in box, with the assembly of handlebars, pedals and front wheel??

IMO if you aren't competent to build up a bike, you should buy from a lcb, the extra few quid and the advice is worth it.
why buy online whats essentially a bunch of parts when you dont know how to assemble them?
(this isnt a attack on sombody its just a general rant:D)
for example the amount of bikes i see people riding in traffic which have been CLEARLY assembled arseways, eg forks back to front is astonishing, whats even more astonishing is than they in some cases decide to duel with heavy traffic:eek::eek:
the government should really look into this before sombody is killed.

Mine came from wiggle with the handlebars down and turned to the side-loosen a few bolts, tighten a few bolts, whack on the pedals and hey presto the bike was fine. Front wheel came attached and saddle at almost the perfect height. Brother's came from CRC and it took him a good while to put it together, but it's fine now, although I did throw a lazy eye over it as he put it together.

If people are able to go to online and find bargains such as those on CRC they should be more than able to find the resources to help them put a bike together-it ain't rocket science and there's plenty of sites out there. Most of the hard stuff's done and it's a good learning curve.

FOLDnoSHOW-Did you cancel payment? Have you heard from them?

i heard crc was the best online store but i ordered a break lever and bleed kit on 6 may and paid for postage thinking i would have it in 24 hours like they say but still notin checked online and says being processed ,what a joke .

I'm pretty sure they say the 24hr delivery is for UK only, at least that's how I'd read it...

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,989 ✭✭✭✭blorg

The free delivery is normal post, the same for the UK and Ireland- it's a "generally" next day for both but with no guarantees. I "generally" _do_ get my stuff the next day after it is shipped but have been waiting a while on a few things now (most recent placed over the weekend and still no sign, reckon I should get it tomorrow though.)

Only high value items are put into the 24 hour courier service. You'd know that if you read the terms and conditions on the site. Everything else goes in the regular post.

They state that items in stock ordered before 2pm (I think?) will be posted the same day. This never happens in my experience. Usually it's not posted until the next day or the day after.

hey tonto stop wasting my time go and find the lone ranger

Got that stuff today- ordered over the weekend, posted Tuesday according to the site (given the bank holiday.) It is often faster and I'm not complaining given the postage is free.

cunnins4- I wouldn't think anyone is trolling, CRC are a great resource but they are certainly not without their problems!

I think I've been very fortunate. I've purchased a bike, numerous parts, lots of items of clothing and other associated gear from Chain reactions, and never had a single problem.

I think the guys above are correct - you're saving major money on high end gear, and the postage is free after all.

If I do ever have a serious problem - I will be quick to mention it here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,901 ✭✭✭lukester

Purchased a bike and a good few other bits and pieces from them and didn't have any problem. The bike took a day or two to process because it was 'in another warehouse' but once despatched arrived the next day

    NEVER A PROBLEM!

they are cheap as chip for the high end stuff :- Frame 2k in cyclelogical - 1.2k on CRC free delivery - do the math dude!

and I've got through a few times by phone and they are bang on, sound northies!!

I've ordered from them a few times now and I've found when I order more than two items ,the picking seems to go into the second day.

I've recieved stuff in the 24hr period from them.
Free shipping ,so no pressure to buy all at once:)
