 Sunday Times (I think) Sports writer on Newstalk yesterday said Zidane will be taking the reigns at QPR next season. Also that Chelsea are lining up a €100 mil bid for Messi! Anyone else hear these things?

Is it true QPR are one of the richest clubs in Britain now?
All that F1 money from Bernie Eccelstone

Could be back in the Premiership in a few years easily

Typical rumour mill. A real 'believe it when you see it' job.

Zidane probably had dinner with Ecclestone at the French Grand Prix back in 1996. Photos from the event have of course been photoshopped to sort out Zizou's decent into baldness.

QPR are easily the richest club in the world if asset value is the issue - it could be fun. :p

    Mike.

Don't they also have new links with Real Madrid?

Zidane could well go into management :)

They will all be great headers soon.

I heard the Messi rumour alright. £80m appearantly. Add to that the £55m they're paying for Kaka and the £20m+ for Berbatov (tabloids:rolleyes:) and it'll be a fairly expensive summer for Abromavich and co.

I heard that Chelsea are offering Everton £1 trillion for Phil Neville

Lazy journalism at its worst... The Zidane rumour started on a QPR fan's message board last week after an article appeared on the official website about a big announcement before the West Brom game yesterday.

The big announcement? A new badge.

BTW. We may have the some of the richest backers in football (Bernie Ecclestone and Lakshmi Mittal), but that doesn't necessarily mean we are the richest club in the world. There is still the small matter of a £100million loan secured on the ground from some shady panamanian outfit that has yet to be paid back...

Why wuld they not just get an actual manager? As opposed to a former star trying his hand at this live championship manager lark. A good one at that seeing as they can afford whatever they like now.

It's more a fan puller with marquee names than anything else (if the rumours are to be believed). Still, there's no reason to suggest it wouldn't work. Roy worked wonders with Sunderland without previous experience and look at the class job Stan did for Ireland (I jest...).

It was the NOTW with the Messi £100m rumour.

Oh well... Looks like its true then...:p

I think it was the People that ran with the Zidane rumour... Nuff said.

Did anyone else hear the rumour about QPR chasing Figo's signature? Imagine that for a completely unlikely set-up next season: Figo managed by Zidane in a mid-table English championship side.

Yeah... That was rumoured a couple of months ago... Figo was in town for some charity and was spotted talking to Flavio, I think... Anyway 2+2=5 and next thing you know, its on SSN that he's joining next season. I also heard last week that he's bought a house somewhere along the A40 corridor and these rumours are now true... *sigh* It'll be a long, rumour-filled close-season for QPR fans!

that would be mad. Id go see them play :p

What price would you get for QPR to win the championship next season? Talk about LMA with the cheats on.

They brought in something like 10 players in january so the new owners have at least shown they will spend somewhat. I think they have a decent chance of at least getting the playoffs. They done well to climb from the relegation zone to mid-table, talk of winning the league is a bit premature maybe.

I certainly hope they make it up anyway, my dad follows them and i'd love another chance to beat his team twice a year :D

We brought in 7 players in January... some of whom were already loans that were made permanent but we didn't exactly break the bank in doing so. It seems that the new owners aren't interested in "doing a Chelsea" and just spending wildly over the odds for players.

Whether this is true or not we'll just have to see how the summer progresses, won't we?

I thought QPR made some very good signings during the last transfer window. I mean, they may now have money - but they remain an unfashionable championship side. They brought in players that may not have broken the bank - but are proven performers at that level.

The thing about any 'name' signings that QPR might make is that they will either be players that are over hyped or over aged. Figo is due to retire and has declined to such an extent physically that he would be unlikely to be a huge contributer over the course of a 46 game league campaign. So choosing instead to sign good championship players until you get promoted then really opening the chequebook when you can offer premiership football is a much smarter way to go.

It's really quite simple. Success in modern football on the pitch carries a direct correlation to the might of financial resources available off the pitch. Assuming that the current ownership sticks it out and there is no significant changes to the current rules regarding transfers / competition entry, etc. Then I think it is reasonable to assume that we will see QPR in a European competition by the start of the 2012 / 2013 season. Maybe sooner.

As a London club would love to see them go back up, no prices yet on next season championship but have a feeling they will be quite short to go up.

The QPR Owner is friends with Zola and there is a better chance of him going to QPR than the Likes of Zidane or Figo.

He's also friends with Naomi Campbell and Mohammed Al-Fayed... Doesn't mean any of them are gonna end up as manager.;)

    In seriousness for a minute.

How long before QPR break the Top 4 in the EPL?

    Is five years too ambitious?

that can be true but we can see who has stood the test of time, ronaldinho is a mere shell of his former self were as neville has kept up his superb team beating form throughout his career!!

QPR and Luigi Di Canio part ways

maybe not Zidane but someone is coming in and will have big money to spend, and will also be the favourite imo for promotion next season.

So how long till we get a QPR dedicated discussion thread.Afterall, those recently converted chelsea fans on the back on romans billions will no doubt be QPR fans once they realise who the new big players in london are :p

Considering he has played with QPR before it is an obivious choice suppose they wanted someone who has been there and done it in terms of Championship football with leading a club to promotion to the Premier League...

Obviously just as glamorous as Zidane.
Dowies 4th club in 2years, he must have a strong nice bank account !

In fairness to the bloke, he did well at Oldham and Palace (before stitching them up) and wasn't the main problem at Coventry a falling out over money (or lack of)? He was overlooked twice at Loftus Road before and although he wouldn't have been my first choice for the job, he's there now so good luck to him.

2 free signings already (Cerney and Rammage) and talk of Portsmouth's Martin Crainie signing next week for £2million looks to have shored up the back line so all we need now is possibly a left-sided midfielder (hopefully Lee Cook is returning) and a 20-a-season striker and all looks promising for a promotion push next season.

    Come on you Rs!:D

    I'll start again.

Mittal is a shareholder in QPR. He is rich. All agreed so far. Where does the assumption that he will pump additional money into QPR come from?
