right so heres the car specs first

94 nisan micra, about 70,000 miles up, was drove very very little up until feb 2007 and 20,000 or so miles have been added since. any ways, when im starting off, whilst turning slightly mostly, a very frequent clicking or rattling is coming from what seams to be the front left wheel arch. not a clue what it is, and on normal driving, or even erattic turning/ accelerating ...no noise, just when your going slow, ie: less then 5 km a hour or so, and then accelerate the noise is there up to half revs in 1st gear.

been there for a while now. had the wheel off yesterday and had a look around couldn't see much wrong bar the fact that it needed a new rubber boot to cover the bearing connecting the drive shaft to the wheel bearing area, but looking into it, there was no dirt in there and the bearing looked pretty well lubricated!

    any ideas?

oh and sorry for the lack of proper terms:D

The CV or constant velocity joint is gone. Probably failed due to the rubber boot bursting & the grease lubrication drying out. The clicking should only be noticeable when turning not when goign straight.

You should get this sorted as soon as you can,. You'll be stranded if the joint fails altogether, which is very likely to happen. Also if you drive it till it completely fails you could risk doing additional damage. If the hald shaft were to come free it woudl be bobong about all over the place in the lower engine bay/inner wing area & could cause damage. I thinkn a CV joint shoudl cost about €80 - €100 for a Micra.

cool, ill get that looked at!!

and just for my own knowladge, is the CV the joint just behind the break pads?

There is a joint at either end of the half shaft coming from the gearbox. The half shaft is the drive shaft & the joint is at the back of the brake disc (location-wise), so I supppose you could say it is behind the Brake disc.

Already answered but definitely sounds like CV joint needs looking at.
