I think that must mean 'safed' as in safety engaged. Typical literal translation, past tense of safe is saved :)

Hmm, I don't use a brass brush, just oil and cleaning felts really. Barrel still comes out shiny.

Use the brush, you will be surprised.

then use IRLConor's magic blue paste - you will be very surprised.

Direct translation from German would be.
"Waffe darf nicht gesichert sein" in English the guns saftey catch must not be on safe.

"If you want to keep someone away from your house, Just fire the shotgun through the door."

I use the blue paste every so often for a magic clean, it's a bit scary, but the results are clear.

    '"Waffe darf nicht gesichert sein"
The gun is not allowed to be secured is the way I would have read that.

I am surprised that there is no specific word for safety catch in German!

Why would you be surprised? :D:D

Waffen sicherungs mechanismus [firearms saftey mechanism] or Waffen sicherungs schalter.[firearms saftey switch, catch]
    Good enough??;)

Now you're missing the point :).

It's a kind of tongue in cheek cultural reference. You only need the word if you need the device. :)

I was expecting a composition of the following:

    switch-that-prevents-firing-be-it-through-accident-or-design-of-your-rifle-but-which-should-not-be-relied-upon-to-prevent-accidents

Now that would be a cool German word.
