    Hey all,

Want to hang a side gate and cheaply.
Went to B & Q and they have decent looking ones for 59 euro.
    They cover a gap of 36 - 39 inches.
The gap I have is 48" which shortens to 44 at one point due to wall being wider.

My question is can I hang a post of some kind to be able to use this gate ?
I've never done this before so here's some of the questions that have been running through my head:

    1. Can the post be metal or wood and which is best.
    2. How best to attach it to the wall
    3. Which side should the post be at...the hinges or the lock of the gate

    thanks in advance
