can i switch modem to 3 prepay modem

My friend has old 3 broadband usb modem, can i go 2 shop and switch it/trade it in to 3 prepay modem .3PREPAY is cheaper for downloads according to thier latest brochure.OR will she just have 2 buy the new modem.WILL they give her some credit for the old modem.
