AA car insepction?

Looking at a car across the water and I have been in contact with the dealer. Now going by the advise on this forum and obviously for piece of mind I intend on getting the car checked out by AA however they are a bit expensive - 195 pound (GB). Would it be worth my while looking for a private mechanic to check it out…

Presume the car is costing a few K, so the thoughts of handing over 195 to guarantee the purchase is really a no brainer.....:)
