And the VRT, which is on the price of the car plus the VAT. Always nice to get tax on your tax...

You only have to pay VAT once, and on a new car, that'll be here, at our high rates.........:o

however - there are practicalities: to get the car from the UK, you'll have to drive it - and the garage can't sell a road-going car without you paying the UK VAT - they have no proof you are exporting it, after all..........so, you'll pay UK VAT first, get UK plates, and bring it home.

Once home, you'll be fleeced, twice..........and pay full 21% VAT, and once you have the proof it's paid here, you have to apply to Revenue UK for a refund of the UK VAT. In other words, you have to put out a lot of money first...........to get just some, back.

If you had the car collected by truck, unregistered, however, the garage should be able to sell it sans UK VAT, and you just pay our VAT, here.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Its not that complicated you get the car ex UK Vat and have 2 months to export (you get special reg plates). All the details are on this link.
