Help required restoring old B/W photo

I'm trying to restore the attached old photo using Photoshop but two things are driving me mad:

I'm trying to restore some contrast to the womens blouses so that they aren't lost against the wall but I can only manage to darken the entire picture.

Secondly, I need to remove the "wipe lines" across the dark clothes. I've tried the clone tool but there is very little original colour left to clone.

Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

You could use the sponge tool to desaturate the wipe lines. They may become less apparent that way. Regarding the ladies blouses you should try the burn tool to darken only their clothes.

    Thanks 5uspect,

I gave that a quick try last night and it looks promising, particularly the burn tool. I badly need to practice the two techniques though.

Basically burn and dodge are darken and lighten on a brush. Very handy for touching up an image. Have fun!
