Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

no, you can definatly work away while your s.s card is in the post. Employers may give you hassle but your within your rights. I got an orientation package from CIEE and that was one of the points.

Lots of employers wont take you on though, even if they should theyll just find another reason not to hire you. When theres so much competition for min wage jobs they have no need to employ the dodgier candidates.

I was waiting 5 weeks for mine last summer in Cali, so were a few of my house mates. Others got theirs in a week. Its just complete luck of the draw really...

Yeah you can get hired while you have applied for your SS number. But it creates a lot of paperwork for employers and it can be a nightmare for HR departments as they can't pay you until you submit your SSN. So a lot of their will not hire you without it but won't state it's because of that reason. I had a mate visit me in San Diego on a J1 years ago and it took him 2 months to get his SSN. But that was back when SD was just added to the J1 and everyone and their mother was there. But he wasn't paid until he got his SSN.
