Avid are discontinuing all their video editing products to allow for a big push on the Media Composser system. They're gonna cut the price of media composser to make it more affordable.
I'm not a big fan of avid, but all my experience is with Xpress Pro. I've heard media composser is better, they cut the lord of the rings on it.

This is true, except that Media Composer IS a video editing product. And its price has been drastically reduced, presumably to be more competitive with Final Cut Pro.

If you learned on Express Pro, you won't have much difficulty switching to Media Composer, as all Avid's software products share the same basic interface.

suppose they did have to do something considering they were beginning to loose market share to FCP. Doesn't seem to be any mention if symphony nitris or the DS have had price reductions.
