What do you need to be a sub-teacher at primary level in Ireland?

    Will just a degree do?

There's no real guidelines, as unqualified people shouldn't really be subbing at all, but as the schools have no choice but to employ unqualified subs, due to the lack of qualified teachers, then it is up to the principal / BOM who they hire, & this could possibly mean you don't even need a degree, though at a guess I'd say most would like to see that you are intending on pursuing teaching as a career, & therefore have applied for the B'Ed, or a post grad.

    Thanks for that.

Ya I intend to do the post-grad when I get my degree results.

I always thought teachers were in a strong supply though? There are a lack of qualified teachers?

I thought primary teaching was what everone wanted to do these days!! :D

The reason schools can't find qualified teachers for subbing is because, when they need to look for a sub (to cover illness, maternity leave etc.) most of the qualified teachers already have jobs, which means they must take on unqualified teachers.
