Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Following on from some discussion in the Premiership Fantasy Football thread, I thought it might be best to give the Euro 2008 edition its own one.

You can sign up here and Invincible has kindly set up a boards league. The code is 39952-5618. Deadline for teams is May 23rd so get on it!

There's a few people in it so far but the more the merrier etc.

Also, any chance of this being a sticky?

Brendangerous are registered and ready to do a Greece.

Was very hesitant to include Italian, Dutch or French teams because of the group of death.

Germany, Portugal and to a lesser extent Spain could fill their boots. It's a lottery guessing on Spain's starting line-up, but the likes of Ballack and Ronaldo could rack up points in the group stages.

Klose must be a certainty for every team, will do very well in the group stages. Also a good tip, Palyuchenko (or however its spelled) for Russia. Only costs 6.0, and has had a magnificent season for Zenit so will definitely be starting up front.

My provisional team so far is -

    Casillas

    Corluka
    Carvalho
    Cannavaro
    Heitinga

    Modric
    Xavi
    Ronaldo

    Torres
    Klose
    Arshavin

    Sub: Fernandes

That'll be changing over the next week or so though no doubt.

The deadline of May 23rd is only for the little pre-tournament they are having with the international friendlies. I wouldnt worry too much about that.

Why is the deadline so soon?

Anyway, as said before, Klose must be a shoe-in for goals!

Was just looking at the rules - it seems this Fantasy football league is only for 3 matchdays leading up the Euros - the warmup friendlies.

Panels are finalised yet for euro2008. It's only for friendlies at the minute but no harm in thinking ahead.

Rolly United: GK: Cech DF:Mellberg, Kovac, Senderos MF:C. Ronaldo, Kranjcar, Ballack, Srna FW: Torres, V. Nistelrooy, Klose Obviously Ive sacrificed some top defenders for a great midfield and a world class forward line. Expecting big things from Ronaldo and Ballack and at 9.5 I would reckon Ballack is good value considering his return to form at Chelsea.

I suppose they're including the friendlies to accomodate people that might'nt be familar with the format of Fantasy Football.

So for the purposes of the league will players scores count from the friendlies?

If you read the "Tipster" section, they state "There will be three rounds of international friendlies to prepare your fantasy football team for ahead of the final tournament in June" "Do not forget that you will also be able to participate in the final tournament fantasy football game when this is launched, so playing the friendly international's warm-up game is the perfect way of preparing for the footballing climax of the year".

It's vague in that it does'nt give a definate answer,I'd think all scores will revert to zero for the start of the championship proper.

Materazzi? Madness. Italy are bound to ship a few goals, considering the group they're in. Materazzi is also prone to moments of absolute madness in big games - giving away penalties, getting sent-off and so on. He'll cost you more than he'll earn!

Italy have a solid defence, Im confident they wont concede much. He's also likely to grab a goal or two, he's a huge threat from corners.

He certainly is. Just ask Juan Sorin....

He also took penalties for perugia so you never know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,587 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

He took Inter's last penalty... skied it and has possibly cost them the title. He wont be taking penalties for Italy. Couple that with the real possibility of Italy finishing third in their group, and he doesn't look like a good deal!

Fine then, nobody agree with me - it'll be great with me being the only one with the balls to pick him and then he'll finish top scorer and I'll win. Mwa ha ha - thats logical, right?

There is also a real possibility of France not getting out of that group instead but that hasn't stopped people snapping up Frenchies for their team.

I think out of all the teams in group C i would be picking defenders from Italy rather than France, Holland or Romania.
    Time will tell.

I think Archimedes is on the right track. Cannavaro is a quality defender but doesn't offer a goal threat like Mattarezzi. He is however a hateful cnut, thats why he isn't in my team!!

Thank you - someone finally agrees! :D

Another word of advice to others entering - pick a Spanish midfielder at your peril! Selection headache right there with Xavi, Iniesta, Alonso, Fabregas and Silva.

2 French left backs mate, Id change one of those for starters. It'll probably be Abidal that will play unfortunately. And if possible, Id lose Ben Arfa. Hasnt been playing much at all for Lyon and probably wont see much action for France. Even Samir Nasri would be ahead of him.

    Hi lad's,
I hate to put the cat amongst the pidgeons, regarding ye'r team selections, but I've noticed, unlike the premierleague.com rules, looking at the rules here, under transfers, they state "unlimited squad transfers can be made without penalty",so you could change your team by more than one player per transfer without loss of points.I saw somewhere else that if teams end on the same points, the team with the least amount of transfers is the winner.

I thought maybe that's just for the friendlies before the tournament starts but it doesn't seem to state that.

    Kinda sucks.
