    screen off no bother...

when I start up the computer, windows logo etc comes up on external screen, then it goes blank (and screen goes into standby), and nothing further is displayed...

It works fine in safe mode... (ie display comes up on external screen)

trying a few things, not getting too far

    any ideas?

    thanks

    ss

    Try Fn+F8
(Fn is the blue function key, next to your left "Control" key)
    This cycles between 3 modes:
    1) Laptop monitor only
    2) External monitor only
    3) Laptop & external monitor

But you have to wait 2-3 seconds each time to see which mode it's in.
