Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Vista Service Pack 1 - How do I check if I have it?

I tried to install Vista SP1 back in March but when I tried to download it kept failing for some reason.

I don't know if Windows Update has since installed it automatically or not.

Is there any way I can check if it's been installed on my computer?

I think if you right click "Computer" and select properties, it should tell you.

Right click on 'My Computer' and select properties.
If it's installed it will say 'Service Pack 1' under windows version (beside the Vista logo).

It's something you would have noticed with the restarting and all so I doubt it.

True but I've had to restart the computer for countless automatic Windows Updates but I don't check what each update is every time, so it could easily have slipped in without me noticing.

I noticed the official Vista website states that the SP1 may take a month or more to appear on your computer. However, it doesn't say whether this means that

    a. Windows Update will install SP1 on your PC and then it could take one month for you to be able to physically see the file on your computer, or

    b. if it means it may take Windows Update one month after SP1's release date to install it automatically.

    *confused*

Vista's website still won't let me install SP1 manually. Now I just don't have any idea how to get hold of SP1.

    You can download it here:

Make sure you click 'Save' and not 'Run'. If you click Run it will fail.

Let it download and when it's finished go to the location on your pc where you saved it and double click on it.

It's not appearing in automatic updates because there is something on your pc causing a conflict with it (incompatable driver or something), so beware of installing it manually.

Be careful though trying to install it if your computer isn't ready. I got impatient so downloaded the standalone version and tried to install it. It wouldn't install due to the fact that not all of my drivers were up to date. Because of the failed install it screwed up some of my system files and my MBR. To resolve this I needed to do a fresh install, back to factory settings, as I couldn't find my Vista disk.

Once I reinstalled and updated everything possible SP1 became apparent in my Windows Update and installed no problem.

Not saying this will happen but it is a possibility if the computer isn't ready.

If it's installed, it should be reported in the status page.

Quickest way to get here is by hitting windows+Pause/break on your keyboard.

    If you have Service Pack 1, it should say so on this information window, note the highlighted bit;

If not, I suggest manually hitting windows update and looking for Optional Updates first. There was a very short list of soundcards and networking devices that would prevent SP1 from being installed iirc. :/
