    Hi Everyone,

just about to seal the deal on a 2004 Renault Megane 1.4. Just wondering if there are any things I need to consider? Are they reliable?

    Thanks a mil in advance

The electrics are definitely not reliable on a megane, know couple of people whose car woul;dn't lock, then refuse to open, windows that open by themselves when locked and parked etc.

Not particularly, there are much better choices tbh.

I know a lot of women like them (apparently they are stylish, but you coulda fooled me) - if they're your cup of tea then fair enough. They are decent on safety which is good, but as realiability, well they're as reliable as ...the French!

Depends on what you're after but for reliability you'd be MUCH better off with a Auris/Corolla/Civic/Golf/Jetta etc

I always found the "cockpit" very cramped and the pedals much too close together but thought it performed well.

I have one for the last five years. It is a 1.6 automatic and it is currently very reliable. For the first three years after I bought it (new) the electrics gave me problems but it is great now. It is much more reliable than Opels, Fords and VWs I have owned or driven but like those it suffers from poor main dealers.

Sandyford Renault, excellent main agent, aftersales really is excellent.

I have an 03 1.4 Saloon with AC etc and it's a nice car. They're very cheap for the amount of car you get, but this is no doubt due to the bad rep for reliability. Had a bit of trouble with mine but now it's grand and I wouldn't want to trade it for anything else in the same price range (nothing I could get insured on at least....).

It's fairly sluggish at low speeds since it's a heavy car for the engine but once you're up to dual carriageway / motorway speeds it pulls fine and is nippy enough even with 5 adults in and the aircon on.

I'd leave it unless it's a Dynamique and you're getting it for under 6.5k - even then I'd be wary of buying one.

Yeah that's like what I got. Any worse spec or higher price and it would have been a bit of a dud.
