    Hi guys,

I am looking at purchasing this car
    http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=Car&carID=1016494

He thinks the VRT will cost €2,900 but when the new changes come in the actual VRT will be much lower. So I was thinking of purchasing the car, and registering it after the changes and then selling it on for a tidy profit.

    Any thoughts / opinions?

    Thanks :)

There is no market for second hand cars in this country at the moment. You'd be better off investing your money in the post office and letting it amass some interest rather than throwing it at a car that you will be married to when you get it home!

The reality is, you have missed the boat. Cars for sale in ireland are now realistically only worth their sale value in UK + Vrt, if even that.

You wouldn't be able to drive it on an Irish road without VRT-ing though as it looks like it's already here.....of course, you're already aware of that. I'm sure it would be delivered to your place and garaged until the changes come into effect :D

When the new changes come in it will actually be higher VRT. That car has a 209grams CO2 rating of Band F (191-225 grams per km), this will give you a new VRT rate of 32%, if you import it now it's 30%.

The only big money to be made in UK cars is importing in crashed repaired or clocked cars and hiding their history from suckers who buy them here with zero research into the cars background, there's plenty of people both private and trade upto this at the moment.

A 2.0 litre petrol auto Mazda 6 would be difficult enough to shift over here at the best of times, given that it will fall into a higher VRT bracket on 1st July it will most probably be sale proof.
