Bit of a misleading/unfair thread title. Not Scotland's shame really. Barely even Glasgow's. I doubt Falkirk, Gretna and Ross County fans want to be categorised the way you have it.

**** sake here we go again.

There is no excuse for what a section of our "fans" got up to last night.
Ibrox was a disgrace also as every ned and scumbag in the city got tanked up and headed there.

Get all the mileage you can out of it....i dont give a toss anymore.

I got attacked last night for being an "Orange bastard". My wife got spat on from a window above the pub for trying to console me after the game and called a "fat proddy cow". My mate is sitting in A&E right now.

Glasgow has a LOT of problems, dont kid yourself that its just Rangers fans though please.

Very true it has a lot of deep seated problems which may never be solved.
Thing is to say its a minority is not really true though.
Its far more than 10% or 20% of the supporters and i include Celtic fans in this.
Horrific scenes last night and i can imagine there will be serious reprecussions
from UEFA and FIFA as fan violence is something that is being really
    heavily cracked down on.
    Disappointing to say the least

They were representing Scotland in Europe, thats the way it will be viewed. If you read any of the comments from other scottish fans on youtube they are saying the same, they have heaped shame on the country.

I'm not saying other teams dont have their problems, far from it, this just happens to be in the news today mate.

If a clubs fans carry on like this surely the club has to take some responsibility? Regardless of who the club is !

Eirebear, as much as I have sympathy for you after what happened to you last night, I'm not going to sit back and not say anything when people CONSTANTLY lump Celtic in to the mix anytime Rangers fans cause trouble.

Of course I can see the problems, and of course I know there's idiots on both sides of the "fence". However, this thread was about Rangers fans and their behaviour last night, and immediately Celtic get dragged through the mud. Pisses me off no end.

Imagine what it will be like in Moscow next Wednesday. It will be the shame of English football as there will be guaranteed trouble me thinks...

The Russian Police will leather the sh*t out of any troublemakers over there though.
Plus the prospect of spending a couple of months in some russian prison out in Siberia might put some people off.

i don't think there will be, to be honest. There are a relitively small number of fans from boths sides going (neither has sold out allocation) due to the cost of the tickets, travel and accomodation. Also, fans will be getting herded from the airport to 'holding pens' for each set of fans, where there will be no alcohol available. From the holding pens they will be given a police escort straight to the stadium. So, there won't be the same level of drinking or fan interaction. I think the final in moscow could go off trouble free, while being one of the worst away trips (apart from actually being the CL final) for sight seeing and atmosphere ever.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Evil_Clown

Was anyone else as shocked as I was to hear a Zenit fan was stabbed in the back INSIDE the stadium, thats frightening
Zenit fans went into this game with the reputation, i'm afraid rangers fan come out with it, disgraceful

Why? What has the behaviour of Rangers in Manchester and Ibrox got to do with them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

The ammount of secterian songs being sung in the stadium came across loud and clear too. I'm no fan of Scottish football in any way, shape or form but the difference between the behaviour of Celtic fans in Seville and Rangers fans in Manchester is plain for all to see. I wouldn't be surprised to see a European ban for them and to be honest, it's warranted.

I have to laugh at one on the news last night saying they spent between £4000 and £5000 to go to Manchester from Glasgow with out tickets just to watch a game on a big screen.

I mean i was in Manchester for Paddy's weekend and went up to the Liverpool Reading game and did not spend more than say £300 on match tickets flights hotel room and lots of drink.

Yeah the complete zero tolerance of the Moscow Police should keep even the bravest of thugs on a low profile, and as its UK clubs all the way over in Moscow, any violence as such wont be as well reported ala Istanbul,Athens, recent world cups.

Re:Last nights problems, I know its sad that people cant control themselves with beer etc, but you have to question the police letting people like Tesco sell beer from 7am in the morning? Note how World Cups etc serve mostly "festival beer" (less strength) to mass crowds pre-games.

I saw that, I can't believe anyone would spend that much to watch the game on a screen. TBH, I wouldn't bother travelling unless I had a ticket to the game, unless it was somewhere like Spain and summer where you could make a bit of a break out of it. Travelling to watch a game in Manchester on a screen ain't my idea of fun, even if it was free.

Surely the organisers must take some responsibility. They seem to have underestimated the number of fans that would travel. Packed them into an overcrowded fan park, fed them beer all day and 5 mins before kick off tell them there's technical problems with the big screen and the match won't be shown.
They should have told everyone earlier to give them time to disperse and find somewhere else to watch it. Only UEFA could organise a shambles like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 517 ✭✭✭lisbon_lions

In private, Manchester council wanted "anyone but rangers", publicly they welcomed both teams with open arms and said it was a carnival atmosphere yesterday afternoon. I just knew when I saw the red hand o ulster flags aboot the place there would be strife from the few. There are many many honest bluenoses that dont need this crap.

    Then the tv played up.

Every team has some element of erse holes, but the rangers seem to have their fair share. perhaps the club should contribute to the clean up.

There will be no big screen in Manchester for the Champ league final due to what happened yesterday a source from the council said. Lets face it, that would probably have passed off without incident.
Time for action from Uefa me thinks.

One policeman got his earpiece implanted in his head, one had his teeth knocked out and a police dog even got it, ffs.

I still cant get over the fact that is being portrayed as a minority.

No. But I doubt very much that the big screen had 'Technical Problems'. The organisers obviously saw how full the fan park was and decided if Rangers/Zenit scored there would be bedlam. Without thinking of the consequences they pulled the plug resulting in even more trouble!

Nope, it was GMC who organised it.

I would like to personally apologise to the people of Manchester on behalf of the tens of thousands of Bears who went down there and behaved themselves.
The scum element in our support has been a bit of a topic for many of us during this campaign, as many people are fed up going to a home european game and being seated beside some sort of degenerate.
Rangers FC must do something about this.

I was talking to a friend about an hour before the game and he was saying that he had just walked to the stadium in the company of a group of Zenit fans and that the atmosphere was extremely friendly wherever they had been that day.

Unfortunately it looks like the trouble kicked off after Rangers fans werent able to deal with defeat in a sporting manner and decided to just wreck the place instead. Yes its a minority when u consider the amount that travelled but by all accounts Manchester is absolutely wrecked this morning and there were a few thousand ans involved.....a minority in the overall picture but an awful lot nonetheless.

A bit of deja vu wasn't there a lot of trouble the last time Rangers played in a European final around 1973 and were they not banned for a few years afterwards? Feel sorry for Eirebear and genuine Rangers fans. Also a bit wrong to lump Celtic in amongst it all the same as their fans behaved impeccably in Seville.

No, it looks like trouble kicked off when the TV broke.

*Moscow is very expensive, there won't be that many fans going over, thus reducing the amount of idiots that could go there

*Security at the airports would again refuse a lot of thugs that try and go over

*match ticket fans being escorted by police

This is very embarassing for everyone involved, GMC, UEFA and Glasgow Rangers especially.

The behaviour of Rangers fans is attrocious and has been for years. There has always been a thug element that travel with their support and it is more prevalent than any other UK based team IMO. Compare the behaviour of Rangers fans on their travels, to those of Celtic and you will see a huge difference.

While steps have been taken to stamp out sectarianism in Scottish football by the SFA, Rangers and Celtic, it obviously isnt enough.

Also, some fans will come on here and say that it is a minority, i dont believe that is an excuse.

Man U bashing...the same would have happened if Liverpool had of got to Moscow as well. If i was bashing you Utd it would have been a lot worse.

1st point, won't be many fans going over are you for real. It will be Chelsea's first Champions League final and its Utd in the final of course they will go even though it is expensive. If they don't there no Liverpool fans, Istanbul and Athens in the last 3 years. How much that cost and still fans went. The Utd and Chelsea fans don't even have to pay a visa either.

Security and Police escort, with UEFA's track record in evidence in recent years with planning these European finals and the venues they choose leave a lot to be desired.

I hope no violence does occur but the chances are more likely espeically considering the environment the fans are going too.

    again.

Neither club have sold out their allocations - so there won't be a surplus of fans hanging around moscow.

You won't get to Russia without a Visa (time consuming) or a match ticket (reduced numbers)

Straight from the airport to segregated, police guarded 'fan zones' where no alcohol will be sold.

Escorted from 'fan zones' to the stadium by police.

Where do you see all this violent alcohol fueled fan interaction occurring?

    They're ;)

Do u have an idea how difficult the Moscow trip is proving to be for fans?! For Istanbul the viisa was waived, for Moscow the visa has been waived for ticketholders only. In order to get a visa u need to have a minimum of 3 nights accomodation booked and the prices are horrendous. I also personally know Liverpool fans who were in both Istnabul and Athens who told me before the SF that they wouldnt be going to Moscow if Liverpool made it due to all the difficulties. They told me that Moscow was proving more hassle to organise than Istanbul and Athens combined. BIG differences and something u should really research before u start talking nonsense.

I agree about the UEFA thing but theyre not organising the police escorts, the Russians are (which may or may not be any better)

I admit there COULD be trouble, course there could, just like there was trouble in Athens, but the main point Im making is that we're here, talking about Rangers last nigth and you're jumping in with your misguided assumptions about something that may or may not happen thats nothing to do with Rangers.

There;s a CL Final thread, maybe u shoudl go over there and post this rubbish.
