They have quite a few Subaru Foresters, got close to one recently at a set of traffic lights.

Gold colour, 06-D plate, tiny little camera mounted beside the rear high level brake light,

Saw this one on Pearse st. Does is have the ANPR facility ?

Unmarked SAAB 9-3 floatin bout too. Very surprised to see it light up and pull a guy in, as I had been following it through very slow moving traffic for quite a while completely unawares.

There are a few Saab 9-3's and S40's (full markings) around Dublin. The Saabs have been around for a few years now

    That would be ministerial.

I've seen that car (or an identical one) pulling into a school that's near me. I always presumed it was a diplomatic car that was dropping "the ambassador's kids" off to school...

Could be the minister's kids too though!

some of the ministers swapped the Merc's for the greener (?) Lexus hybrids a few years ago

That Lexus is the hybrid version belonging to John Gormless...sorry, Gormley! Leader of the tree huggers and Minister for the envirinment.

Saw an unmarked 3 series on tax-collecting duties in Laois lately and I know the guards at home wrote off an Alfa 156 a few years back.

Unmarked Forrester is a regular enough sight outside Cork. Heard rumours of an Evo patrolling too but never seen it.

Saw an A6 Avant and Ssangyong Rexton outside the Four Courts lately too, definitely two that I would not spot.

Never seen the Saabs though, wouldn't cross my mind to look at a 9-3 twice.

I was told the Evo was bought for the Fermoy bypass and they had one to test with 9 more on order for around the country. But the clutch kept going on it and they decided it wasn't practical so the order was cancelled and the tested one sent back.

Saw a navy estate 5 series (think it was a 530d) with blacked out windows in the Phoenix Park yesterday, driving on the wrong side of the road outside a traffic jam with sirens and flashers on.

Minister Gormless has a Prius, as does Minister Éamon Ryan;)!

One of the other ministers has a Lexus GS, but it's not a hybrid model!

All future ministerial/state cars will run on diesel, or alternatively hybrid power.

    They were the ERU.

The ERU and any other specialised units have a host of false plates (not D reg obviously) and false tax/insurance discs which they change regulary.

I'm deadly serious about the rover 400. Theres some gas stuff hanging around the back of the station that they use for surveillance if you are near a main station. Theres even a 1989 corolla van that they still use!
