Im looking to get the car valeted. What I want done is a complete paint restoration (the car is 95 but the paint is in good condition).
I would like the paint to be like new, getting out swirls etc..

Whats involved in a full paint restoration, is it just compound, polish then wax or is there more involved?
Do all the valet places compound?

    Thanks

If you do have the swirls removed you will have to be careful washing the car afterwards, no car washes, no sponges, no chamois drying as these will all cause swirls in the paint again.

What do you wash the car with instead of a sponge?

APC wash to degrease, clay paint to remove industrial fallout and other contaminants, compounding or intensive polishing with a medium cut, abrasive polish to remove scratches and swirl marks, final polishing with a light cut polish to spruce up colour and gloss levels, then apply a sealant to protect the restored paint, and some like to finish with a wax to add more depth and warmth.

On a '95 car you may not want to spend 300 or 400 quid but that is what it costs to do properly. And you may not have enough paint on the car in the first place to do full correction. If it is in good enough shape, it would take a whole day (may two) to sort out and only a handful of people in Ireland do that kind of work. The majority of valet places just do the cheap quick wash and wax jobs. I wouldn't let anyone who isn't a specialist anywhere near my paint with a buffer. And anybody who quotes you much less (unless done as a nixer) and all you will be getting is a temporary cover up job.

Lambs wool or microfibre wash mitt, and dry off with a microfibre waffleweave drying towel.

    Step by step guide here.
