    hi all,

will be helping a friend to buy a toyota yaris, 1999-2001 (looking on carzone). thinking of buying privately as its cheaper. (budget is around 3500 and the ones with the black bumpers are a no no).

we were wondering, are there any mechanics around that would accompany to give the cars a once-over to make sure they are what they are and run well? anybody knows anyone who does within reasonable margins?

    thanks!

Best to find a car you really like first, then have it checked by a mechanic, rather than bring the mechanic to view various cars with you. Cheaper I'd say. And a location/area would help alright!

A few friends have used them and seemed fairly pleased with the whole process. Most sellers are reasonably happy to let you drive to the place, if not, I'd be suspicious of their intent and by that logic, the car in question.

Getting a mechanic to accompany you is fine if you have an informal arrangement already with a guy who services your car etc., but could be expensive if you are not on familiar terms.

Just ask the seller to bring the car to the mechanic, at an agreed time.
