    looking to import a

    02 C class Avantagarde Automatic C220 cdi

according to parkes the CO2 is 166

and according to http://www.smmtco2.co.uk it's 177 !? which puts it in the higher bracket.

Is there an official one that the Gov use or can anyone shed some light .. thanks

Call Merc UK and ask them what figure they'll be putting on the Certificate of Conformity, or call the current owner and ask them what's on the V5. Those are the docs the revenue will use to get the CO2 figure.

Won't matter if you are importing it to ireland, as tax will be based on CC not CO2 as its not a 08 car. Your VRT will be charged on CO2 as far as i know however. You should be able to get the cert of conformity through any UK main dealer, but maybe the V5 would do?

Only for imports after 01/07/2008. Imports before that are still charged based on engine size

@OP, I'd trust http://www.smmtco2.co.uk before I'd trust parkers. I looked the figure up myself elsewhere and it came up with 177g/km too. But to be absolutely sure, you'll have to get the info from MB as AudiChris suggested
