Meelan Favourites for Uefa Cup

so despite an enthralling four-1 victory over [insert italian team name]
Meelan have not done enough to qualify for the Champions League (Big Cup) next year, and instead find themselves the favourites to win the Uefa Cup (Euro Vase)

What kind of summer will they see this year?

today marked the last game of many of their stars, Cafu, Dida, Serginho etc.

They have already brought in Flamini for next year and there is strong talk of more signings

kaka may be content for the moment
"There's only one chance I will leave Milan, actually two," he said. "The first is that my objectives and those of the club are no longer the same, the second is that they tell me they want to sell me because they need to make a new start. I don't think either of these possibilities are likely."

There is talk of Them stepping up interest in Jose,
but would he want to manage a team who are not in the Big Cup?

Adriano said today he wants to return to Inter,
Would Jose take him back if he is with inter next year?

Meanwhile Keane & Quinn are adamant that Ireland will be brought to the stadium of light this summer along with chum kevin doyle, will the presence of fellow hair bullying victim Hunt encourage him too come?
Steve Sidwell will be warming the bench too.

The Meelan players who are way too old are the fringe players mostly: favalli, cafu, serginho, Inzaghi.

Their ideal midfield of Pirlo, Gattuso, Seedorf and Kaka was only last year widely regarded as one of the best in the world. They have a strange surplus of defensive midfielders with Gattuso, Ambrosini, Emerson, Brocchi, and to an extent Pirlo since he lines up there. They really lack depth at the top of the diamond though, with only Kaka and sometimes Seedorf able to play that position to any effect. Milan would do well to sign one of: Diego, Van der Vaart, Nasri, or even Ronaldinho in the summer.

Milan's defense is primarily where the Viagra comsumption is occuring, but is still one of the best in serie A certainly, if not the world. Only Inter have conceded fewer goals in the serie A. If anything Milan lack depth at the back. Beyond their solid starting back 4 of Oddo, Nesta, Kaladze, Jankulovski, they have Bonera (not sold on him), Favalli (35), Cafu (37), Maldini (a legend, but 39), and Serginho (36). Some solid defensive second teamers are despirately needed, but shouldnt cost too much money.

Milan REALLY need help is at 2 positions: goalkeeper and centre forward.

Dida is done, and has been for a few years. Kalac, aside from this strange patch of form he's found late in life, has never been very good. It was apparent at the end of last season that Milan needed a goalkeeper badly, but were unable to get one. They really cant afford to make the same mistake again this summer. Here's hoping Livorno gets relegated and Amelia moves to Meelan!

Centre forward is probably their biggest problem. Last season in the serie A, their top 2 goal scorers were Gilardino with 12 goals in 30 games, and Kaka with 8 in 31. This season their top 2 are again Kaka with 8 in 20, and Gilardino with 7 in 24. Compare that to 2005 where they had Shevchenko with 19 in 27, Gilardino with 17 in 31, Kaka with 14 in 33, and Inzaghi with 12 in 23. Pato in all honesty looks great, but would probably benefit from having a traditional centre forward to play off of.

Interesting to note the huge drop in Gilardino's production when he was no longer partnering Shevchenko up front. To any Chelsea fans who are doubting how good he really was, he was one of the few forwards who made everyone else around him better.

Milan won 4-1 although considering how long that post is and how quick you posted after FT guess when you wrote that bit the game wasnt over yet.

edit: and why do you start talking about Sunderland...how is that related to Milan?

And he called Milan inter more than once and for some strange reason mentions Adriano in there too...

Are you on drugs young man?

Fantastic news. No longer have to worry about them from a Man Utd point of view

what with him playing on for another season Milans non-qualification for the CL means its more likely that Maldini will end his career lifting silverware as would be fitting, albeit the Uefa cup.

Actually, I hope we get knocked out of the vase early and concentrate on the domestic double, been ages since we won the league or the cup...

    I think this bit;

Adriano said today he wants to return to Inter,
Would Jose take him back if he is with inter next year?
was a tangent, rather then a mistake, calling AC inter, like a 'if Jose instead goes to inter, would he take adriano back'.

its inclusion is still a bit of a puzzler though, as is the sunderland section..

I thought Ancelotti was pretty much secure for the moment anyway.
"Whether we enter the Champions League or the Uefa Cup, Ancelotti will be our Coach next season," announced Galliani.

Would be harsh on Mancini to be fired from Inter too. Despite the failings in europe, they have still pretty much dominated the league.

Roberto Mancini who scored no goals during his stay with Leicester is a sure thing to leave this summer, sure he resigned after their champs league exit

No I was referring to Inter Milan in that paragraph, Mourinhos other option in Italy.
    Just lucozade.

Roy Keane has been given a transfer kitty of 50 million,
he wants to bring stephen ireland to the club.
Hunt previously spoke of Ireland being intimidated by the players mocking his cave-man looks, Hunt admitted he too had been the victim of slagging but encouraged s.Ireland to learn to shrug it off.

sorry yeah i quoted the wrong bit, bugger

Inter boss Roberto Mancini has been offered the chance to take over at Chelsea next season, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,098 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Mancini did resign after the champions league exit (well, to leave at the end of the season), but took it back at the wishes of the chairman a few days later, so hard to know whats going to happen.

Moratti's comments after their recent 'fall out'
"Many times a person feels obliged to reply to make clear their own position and unintentionally a situation of contrast is born," said Moratti.

"In reality we are pulling in the same direction. Also next season? Yes I think so."

True, but it seemed at times like they were doing their best to let Roma win it!

The Big Cup? The euro vase? have you been playing too much football manager?

well he is only on loan at Sao Paulo so it wouldnt be a surprise to return to them once the loan is up

stop saying Meelan it sounds retarded, its Milan not that difficult.

I am interested to see who Milan will bring in this summer, Bayern were in the same boat last summer and brought in Klose,Ribery and Toni.
Good start with Flamini, could be a interesting summer in Milan
Sevilla to win Uefa Cup next season? Not with Fabiano and Alves at United they won't ;)

but I did find it very hard to comprehend your post and may have missed a point you may have made.

A bit of a ludicrous opening post

As for the favourites for the Uefa Cup, can anyone tell me the last time (if ever) the pre season favourites won the Uefa Cup?
