Garda - rent allowance?

    I'm looking at this - http://www.gra.cc/payscales.shtml

    It's mentioning a rent allowance of about 4k per year on top of the salary when you graduate. What's this all about?

    you get a rent allowance of 4k, exactly what it says on the tin, 81.83 a week

    Basically. Garda wages are broken down, allowance for this, allowance for that. Thats just the way they work it. The actual 'wages' based on worked hours is only about 24 thousand per year.

    Correct me if I'm wrong here but doesn't this allowance rise from the loss of state provided housing oh so many years ago?

    It might have something to do with the fact that the Garda must serve away from their hometown too.

    New town, new place. Allowance, and all that.
