Europe XI vs. RoW XI, who'd win?

Just for fun: What's your European XI, your Rest of World XI, and who would win?

    I'll try:

    Europe...

    Casillias
    Ramos-Ferdinand-Carvalho-Evra
    Xavi-Fabregas-
    --Ronaldo-Ballack-Henry
    Torres

An obvious Premiership slant, and Serie A not represented at all, as I rarely get a chance to watch any! Henry's done nothing at Barca, but he's still a quality player.

    Rest of World...

    ??
    Alves--Toure--Heinze--Sorin
    Essien-Macherano
    ---Messi---Kaka---Eto'o
    Drogba

True to the South American stereotype, defence was a problem. No keeper came to mind, and I havent seen Sorin play in about a year! The central pairing are a bit prone to shockers too, but I cant think of alternatives...

With a decent keeper between the sticks, I would say RoW team would just about nudge it. In Macherano and Essien, Europe would struggle for space in the final third. I'll give it a thrilling 2-1 to RoW! :)

What about you? Your teams and winners?

Ronaldinho would have to be included in rest of world team. Even though not at his best recently he's still a world class player.

    My European team would be.

    Peter Cech

    Phillip Lahm
    Fabio Cannavaro
    John Terry
    Patrice Evra

    Ronaldo
    Michael Ballack
    Cesc Fabregas
    Thierry Henry

    Ruud Van Nistelrooy
    Fernando Torres

A bit of an attacking bias maybe, they'd be entertaining though!
For rest of world I'd be struggling to pick a defence. Players I'd have to include would be Michael Essien,Ronaldinho,Kaka,Etoo,Messi. At the moment I think a European selection would have the edge.

    Euro XI -

    Buffon

    Richards
    Terry
    Cannavaro
    Lahm

    Xavi
    Fabregas

    Ronaldo
    Ballack
    Quaresma

    Torres

Bit biased with Micah I know but I really couldn't think of any stand out right backs at the moment. It's only a matter of time before he makes these sort of teams anyway.

I think Ronaldo and Quaresma would have a field day out wide against a World XI that wouldn't be renowned for its defending.

    World XI -

    Kameni

    ----Dani Alves
    Toure
    Heinze

    Essien
    Yaya Toure

    Messi
    Kaka
    Mancini

    Drogba
    Luis Fabiano

Essien and Yaya Toure are there to compensate for going three at the back. The plan is for Essien to drop in to allow Alves to bomb forward.

Messi and Mancini would be constant threats with the power and pace of Drogba and Fabiano looking for a sniff of goal.

Overall I think the European side would shade it possibly 4-2 thanks to their superior defence/goalkeeper.

    Euro XI:

    Buffon

    Ramos
    Ferdinand
    Nesta
    Evra

    Gerrard
    Fabregas

    ----Ronaldo
    Quaresma-

    Torres
    Toni

    World XI:

    Kameni

    Alves
    Toure
    Heinze

    Essien
    Mascherano

    ---Messi
    Kaka
    Ronaldhino-

    Eto'o
    Drogba

I picked Kameni using Xavi6's judgement :p couldnt think of anyone else.
i think the attacking power of the world XI is absolutely terrifying. mascherano and essien would dominate the midfield and the mix of power and pace from drogb and eto'o would mess defences around. i think the euro's would sneak a 2-1 victory tho.

Copied the spine of Archimedes' choices...

    Europe XI

    Casillas

    Sergio Ramos
    Ferdinand
    Nesta
    Chivu

    Sneijder
    De Rossi

    ----Ronaldo
    Iniesta----

    Villa
    Del Piero

    Rest of World XI

    Julio Cesar

    Zanetti
    Lucio
    Alex
    Maicon

    Essien

    ---Messi
    Kaka
    Ronaldinho---

    Eto'o
    Aguero

Both absolute quality sides, I'd say it'd end 3-3 overall...

Any good LB's outside of Europe, I don't like Heinze to be honest.

Had that same problem myself. Roberto Carlos and Sorin are getting on a bit, and Marcelo is merely potential at this stage.

Doesn't Kolo play left back as well?

    European XI

    Buffon

    Ramos----Carvalho---Nesta----Chivu

    Fabregas

    --C. Ronaldo
    Ribery

    Totti

    Toni
    Torres

    World XI

    Friedel

    --Alves
    Toure
    Alex----Maicon

    Essien

    Mancini
    Kaka
    Messi

    Drogba---Eto'o

Reckon the Europeans would shade it by one

With just Fabregas in central midfield i reckon that world team would tear them apart. Couldn't see Ronaldo and Totti helping out much in that respect.

    I'd go with;

    Europe

    Buffon
    Ramos---Nesta---Carvalho---Lahm

    Xavi---Cesc
    --Ronaldo---Gerrard----Silva

    Torres

    World

    Kameni
    Alves---Toure---Lucio---Marcelo
    \/
    \/
    \/----Essien---Mascherano---\/
    Kaka

    ----Messi
    Ronaldinho
    Eto'o

That front 3 was just astonishing when all on form together at Barca so why break up a working partnership ;)

Marcelo's probably a bit young, but has impressed me whenever i've seen him.

Would be a savage game, not sure who i'd pick to win..

I compensated for that by putting Friedel in goal ;).

TBH, I don't see why they would, Cesc is a good defensive midfielder, better than De Rossi anyway and Europe would have plenty going forward while being safe at the back

Its all well and good having amazing attackers, but there's not really anyone to be winning the midfield battles and letting them do their attacking. Would take one hell of a performance from Cesc to compensate for 5 players in front of him standing around lookin at their boots! (to be fair Torres and Ribery would help out a bit alright, but you get my meaning ;) )

It's a diamond midfield tactic, Championship manager staple, I still fail to see the problem

Totti Toni and Ronaldo are all notorious for not helping out on the defensive side of things...It means Fabregas has to break down every midfield attack all the way across the field, win the ball and then distribute it. Its the reason Gerrard isn't played in a midfield 4 anymore, 1 holdfield midfielder isn't enough if the others aren't chipping in a significant amount. Same reason Kaka has 2 players behind him so he can be free to go forward.

ach, sorry taking this far too seriously, i would really love to see that team lineout to see the potential of the attacking flair, i'd just worry about them actually winning the ball in midfield with Fabregas constantly being hounded.

Who needs a goalie with three man mountains like these in the midfield. On the rare occasions europe get the ball garay can step in goals till it's retrieved !

lol. looking at most of these lineups you'd have to go with ROTW. Europe will be lethal in the break, but ROTW seem to have more doggedness in around the midfield which i think would be just enough to contain them soft continental types :D
