Has anyone got any suggestions of things they'd like to do or to have organised. I was thinking a night at the dogs, some sort of a day out like to Bray or somewhere or maybe even a festival?

I went to the dogs a few times before, and I have to say, I found it a little depressing TBH. Each time I went, the same gamblaholics were there - huge guy in electric wheelchair, guy with grey greasy gelled back hair..and a few others. Although the ads on TV try to emphasise the 'fun night out' aspects, I found the reality of being there closer to the 'hardcore gambler' vibe.

I say we organise to meet up at the Electric Picnic!

    Anyone wanna organise some paintball?

I'm pretty sure we could get a group discount (especially cos I advertise them on www.nondrinkersgroup.com for free).

Well, I organised the quiz, so are there any volunteers who want to organise paintball? :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,528 ✭✭✭OK-Cancel-Apply

Paintball would be teh lolzordezez! Unfortunately though I'm sort of busy in the next few weeks, and wouldn't really have the time to put into organisation :(

Maybe there's someone else here who'd have a bit of free time and would be into it...?

As for meeting up at Electric Picnic - sound great to me! I wouldn't know for sure until closer to the time, but it definitely be up for it.

Organising a private booth is handy enough though... I've gone twice and was surprised that I actually found it fun.

The dogs are class. I have never had a bad time at the dogs, no matter how much I lose :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,610 ✭✭✭Karen_*

Well we could organise both maybe? I've always had a good time at the dogs too.

I'll look up prices and venues and if people could post if they're interested then if we've got numbers it might be worth doing:)

Yeah the dogs would be cool. Wasn't trying to put a put on damper on the idea earlier or anything, just giving my personal experience. Though, looking back now my post looks like a right old rant!

Actually, last time I was there, I really wanted to try the Derren Brown trick on one of the employees, but I didn't have the guts! Good thing too, because it wouldn't have worked. The man's a fraud! :p

Greyhound racing is a cruel sport and I strongly advise you all not to go there - ever.

    Hi Everybody

I've just registered and I think it's a brilliant idea to have a non-drinkers club! Well done...

The idea of a festival, or hill walking sounds great! Do you guys meet up regularly for coffees' or movies?
I'd love to meet up and discuss other opportunities..

Let me know if you organize something as I'll definitely come along..

    Thanks

OMG that's pretty awful. I had no idea it was as bad as that. I mean, yeah, animal related sports never exactly rubbed me the right way, but I didn't know so much cruelty was involved.

But hey, you're right - there are plenty of other things to do, especially now that it's summer! :D

    Poor Santa's Little Helper!

Cinema would be a handy one to organise a gathering to.

Might I suggest the brand new Lighthouse Cinema for something a little bit interesting?

Yep. It only opened a few weeks ago.

I went see the XXY film there and it was very good.

Eden just released there today... I was at the world premiere of that in the Dublin Film Festival a few months back. It's a completely Irish funded film... not much of a storyline to it, but the production values are great and the performances are very good in it.

Hey definitely up for going to the lighthouse, it looks lovely, name a time and a date would be nice to do that. Have been stuck in a no internet zone for the past few weeks but have finally resolved it this week, gutted I missed the table quiz.
Oh a similiar note does anybody want to go walking from Howth to Sutton some weekend along the cliffs, it's a fantastic walk! If there's any interest I can work out DART times and maybe get a few things for a picnic. Let me know.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,528 ✭✭✭OK-Cancel-Apply

Hey neeviec, we were wondering were ya disappeared to! :pac:

I'm up for anything that's happening in the next while. Just gimme a shout :) this is NonDrinkersClub with a new user name by the way. Just thought the odl one was a bit lame! haha

Yes I'm back, I'm rubbish at organising stuff so it'll have to be something simple like a picnic or the cinema, I have absolutely no imagination! The zoo might be nice also but we can all put our heads together and think of something fun I'm sure.
Definitely on for a walk of some description, if anyone else is. Does any date in particular suit everyone who's interested? The last two weekends of June I'm busy but before and after it's all good with me!

Hey seeing as it feels like several millenia since I did my leaving cert let me know when you finish up and we organise something for then, I haven't a clue even when it starts or what the end date is so let me know! Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,610 ✭✭✭Karen_*

And it IS several millenia since I did my leaving cert:D

Quite like the walking idea too. What a bout sunday the 15th of June to do something or the beginning of July?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 193 ✭✭Claire121

Hey, this is my first time posting here but I'd be really interested in the lighthouse cinema, or possibly walking from Howth to Sutton! The cinema thing especially would be easy enough to organise I think?

I organise a weekly movie club, and would have no problem helping out with a trip to the newly re-open Lighthouse.

    Would a Monday evening suit?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25 neeviec

Ha ha just joined the movie club on facebook was just going to spread the word here when I saw your message! I think this club is a great idea!
Definitely up for the Lighthouse some weekend, the 15th sounds good to me and the start of July sounds OK at the minute.

As for the Howth to Sutton, that will also be relatively easy to organise also, just meet at a DART station and head out from there if people are interested.

I was also thinking too seeing as it's summer time is anyone up for taking a dip in the 40 foot, I have never done this personally but have always wanted too, we could do that (or people could watch as some brave souls do it) and head for refreshments of a warming variety after it.

Sorry I've done a lot of surfing on the internet today but came across this http://www.thetasselclub.com/pages/events.htm
Would anyone be interested in going, I know it is ages away yet but tickets are 40 euros and it's not always easy to scrape the money together at the last minute. Just looks like it would be a good laugh and a chance to throw on some glad rags and have a bit of fun that's a bit different to the norm.

I know I've thrown out a good few ideas out there but it's just a bit of food for thought for future reference if anyone is interested. Anyway I better go to sleep, have a lovely day's work starting at silly o'clock! Night!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,610 ✭✭✭Karen_*

I'd love to do the 40 foot!!! I say that now but I would need persuading at the time.:D

Hiya Claire and welcome to the boards. ;)

Ok well for starters will we organise the lighthouse and maye some grub. Doesn't have to be loads of us but at least to get the ball rolling and we can discuss ideas then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

Ok, provisionally who would be interested in Lighthouse Cinema next Monday 9th June evening ? or perhaps the Monday 16th?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Yep. Mondays are better than Wednesdays for me anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,610 ✭✭✭Karen_*

Next Monday I'm in Ibiza and the week after am going to Prince. Usually though Mondays are fine for me:D

Ok, How about Monday 16th - that leaves people a little bit of time to plan.

I'll wait for a little more feedback, then set the wheels in motion.

Has anybody ever taken part in the An Oige hikes? I would imagine that's an activity that doesn't involve too much drinking. I'm thinking of doing this one on Sunday

Hey All - I've updated the NDG website! Cinema outing on June 16th is now included. Please keep me up to date with the film name and time when it's decided.

For anyone else who's gotten enough people together to organise an event, just let me know and I'll put the details on our site :)

I used to do these hikes with my parents years ago and they were always really fun...you do need walkin' boots though - runners just don't cut it! :) I might go - worried though cos I'm incredibly unfit.
