    A junkheap Renault 4 van.

The roof was rusted where it met the side walls, there was a hole in the floor so large you could see the ground as you drove along and driving along was rare in itself as the car almost never started and needed to be pushed.

    071210-1-a-ren.jpg

Followed by a scrapheap Fiat 128

    3519149.jpg

It eventually gave up teh ghost completely and was parked on blocks in the driveway for years.
My father had converted it into a greenhouse and the wrecked car was used as a local landmark to our acute embaressment.

First one I remember is one of these
    CB1132555.jpg
Same colour as the one in the pc.... neary sure the reg was IMI 777
If not it might have been the reg of the replacement
    _MG_7181.jpg
Same colour as the one in the pic but with ......*shudder*.... black vinyl roof.
    Then came the unforgettable
    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSazW3p5FTKQxAqBcQ8r1J4fVcxydLi51vScheYACsUA69tvwpt6oldR-in
That got turned into an accordion outside the factory where me dad worked by a lorry full of pigs...
    Then THIS!!!
    3445801286_af6fb1a858.jpg
After that a load of vans... Lite Aces mostly :(

Renault 4 it was he had a few of them I even remember one with a starting handle.

First one I remember was a tropical blue 1984 Renault 5,
Then several years with a 1985 bronze VW Passat fastback
There was an 87 grey Audi 100 in there for a time
Followed by a 1990 gold coloured VW Jetta Pacific
Then one of my favourites, a kinda mint green 1992 Audi 80 2.0 petrol

All the other VW/Audis we had were 1.9 standard diesels, the Jetta, I remember, was a particularly agricultural kind of animal.

Nowadays he drives a 2007 Honda Civic 2.2 TD hatchback.

Am not a car buff so don't remember the specifics.

We had a Morris at some stage , a dull brown colour.
Then we had a Triumph, a grey/blue colour.

The highlight of my childhood was dad buying a brand new car,we only ever bought second hand ones before this,so I will forever remember it.
A cream with brown horizontal stripe, Ford escort- and the plastic covering on the seats which we tried to keep intact forever.

Funnily, I remember the full reg numbers for all 3 cars, yet I can barely remember the one I drive daily.
Anyone remember their old regs?- ours were NID, ZO,YCI,......
I'm sure the youngsters nowadays would find it terribly confusing!

My dad had a Morris Minor 1000, but that came to an end when he rolled it after a tyre burst on an S-bend near Stirling in Scotland. I was in the back, aged about 5 in the days before rear seatbelts, but came out unhurt apart from a mild bump on the head. Dad and sister had a few cuts and bruises, no more. Oh well ...

Ye Hypocrites, are these your pranks
To murder men and gie God thanks?
Desist for shame, proceed no further
God won't accept your thanks for murder.

I actually drove one of these a few years ago.

3 speed box. Reverse where you'd think first would be.

Feels unsafe at speeds over 45MPH & that's in broad daylight on a dry road!

Still, I spose they were better than hitching up a pony & trap which is what they replaced really.

Dad learned to drive in an army 2 1/2 ton truck.
When he got back home from the war, he bought a 1935 Plymouth sedan. After that,
    1951 Plymouth Cranbrook 4-door sedan
    1960 Plymouth Belvedere 4-door sedan
    1968 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 4-door sedan
    1976 Chevrolet Nova 4-door sedan
    1988 Chevrolet Celebrity 4-door sedan

The pictures aren't actually Dad's cars, but they're the same model and color as his. Except maybe the '35 Plymouth, because I only saw it in B&W photos. It was a 4-door sedan, but I'm not sure what color it was. With those huge fins, I thought that 1960 Belvedere was the coolest, but it was a piece of junk. That's why Dad stopped getting Plymouths and started buying GM cars.

    1970-ish Opel Record Estate
    4942301941_d8b0b185e9.jpg
    • Red
    • Lots of chrome
    • My Dad used to need an estate to travel the country selling clothes wholesale to small shops

    1972 Peugeot 504 GL
    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRQ8K7ai6sGt49owL1F5CCe7pIPHX4NtiUalSOocXTFuYcxH8fFyRAoCkc
    • White, new
    • Nice bit of luxury (for those days): cloth seats, carpet, rear armrest, good sound-proofing.
    • Loved being in it (i was about 4 years old when we got it). Dad liked to save money by buying stuff in bulk from wholesalers (like shoe polish, tins of beans, firelighters...), and one time he got a whole case of banannas from the fruit market, stored them in the boot of the car too long, and the car acquired this smell of ripening bannanas, which it never really got rid of - hated that smell after a while!
    • Dad liked this car bacause it was really reliable (in the days when cars were generally not very reliable) - it had won the Paris-Dakar rally several times in the early '70s.

    1978 Toyota Corolla K30
    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQT9pAJWgHQQYjqZMn2A8OsEpp8tWr4Zn7gtsXD-p8tUeF7XllL9CNh6Q
    • New, left plastic seat covers on it for about a year :pac:
    • Yellow, 4-door
    • Amazing luxury: cloth seats, tinted windows, standard radio, other stuff I can't remember
    • Really reliable, mechanically.
    • Really poor rust-proofing, rust would bubble up under the paintwork continually, Dad had to get it resprayed several times (he must have known someone that could do it cheaply, because resprays are hugely expensive).
    • This was Mam's car.
    • My brother and I learned to drive in this down the country when on holidays in the caravan: I was about 13 - needed a cushion to sit on to see over the steering wheel  :pac:

    1978-ish Peugeot 504 Estate GX
    1978Peugeot504wagon.jpg
    • Diesel, sounded like a tractor.
    • Vinyl seats, not as luxurious as the 504 GL... this was a true commercial vehicle.
    • Didn't like it.

    1983 Peugeot 505 GRD Estate
    5847392135_a25e79fed7.jpg
    • Blue, diesel, bought new (sold red 504 estate).
    • Beautiful car, loved it. Nice bit of luxury inside.

    1981-ish Opel Kadette Diesel Saloon
    opel-kadett-1982-03.jpg
    • Sold the Corolla and got this.
    • 1.6 Diesel, black
    • Nice car, slow, lot's of MPG, reliable.

My Dad drove a Yugo in the 90's, I have no idea what model.

A Serbian guy that I know initially didn't believe me when it came up in conversation recently, he didn't realise how widespread the car was. There was a fair few around Cork at the time.

Can't believe I'm only finding this forum now! Loving it!

From the year I was born (1989) to now, the aul lad drove the following:

198? Toyota Corolla. Beast of a car so I was told. She was robbed thrice and met her firey death at theft number 3 in 1991. Tough life. RIP

    1981-Toyota-Corolla-Wagon.%2B-%2B02.jpg

After the Corolla, he had a 1989 Peugeot 305 which broke his heart but he will always maintain that it was the most comfortable car he has ever owned.

    Peugeot_305_GR_1981.jpg

The Peugeot was replaced in 1992 by a brand new Ford Sierra :D

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQTwYD20fw_blYCVYnPAbRP63ePqaGhIzBOozQCWMHCEluBeSHDog

No, it wasn't a Cosworth :( This is where, at the tender age of 3, I grew a love for all things drivable. I can actually remember the day when this car was sold and I was distraught. Can't remember exactly what year that was. 1994 maybe.

He was forced to take a step back and the Sierra was replaced with a 1990 Nissan Sunny which he owned till 1999. He had that years and it ended up been passed down to my brother, who then passed it on to my sister until it came to a firey end in 2002. RIP. I always say that that Sunny would still be in the family somewhere if she wasn't stolen and burnt out.

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTbral-xwrEfpcS6JCDEQGPlCBIfwTGyctQgEs5K_5X7gYTTH_aJA

Dad bought a brand new Ford Focus in 1999. We were the talk of the street with our brand new car which had only been launched to the market! :P Power steering and electric windows??!! WOW! This was the car that made my father swear that he'd never buy a brand new car again. I really don't blame him. It was identical to this:

    54064523.jpg

My brother went to Oz for a year back in 2004 and left his 2001 Punto behind. My Dad decided to buy the Punto off him while he was away, and he'd put both the Focus and Punto up for sale. It was a competition between both cars. Whatever car sold first would be gone and the car that didn't sell would live with us. Guess what car didn't sell? The f****n Punto! I won't even bother going into that. We'll be here for days.

    Used_Fiat_Punto_1_2_5_Door_Hatchback_Red_2001_Petrol_for_Sale_in_UK.jpg

That Punto overstayed its welcome and was replaced with the Top Gear car of 2005, a 2003 Suzuki Liana. Identical to this minus this horrible wheels.

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRA7REtNsl-WkDg8WnbDKfkQGE63byAcWUi6JtrG_Dtm5En-C5Z

He still has it. I've asked him to sell it but he won't. I despise it but he is happy out with it. She is not my cup of tea but is very solid and has many more years left in her which keeps dad happy.

Those were the cars from 1989. Before that, off the top of my head, I think my Dad has owned a Ford Cortina, a MK1 Escort, a MK2 Escort, a few Beetles, some sort of Skoda and some sort of Austin.

Of course, our dad has had his fair share of vans too. Mostly company vans. A Lite-ace, a Vanette, a Caddy, a Hiace and a Vivaro. I have a van that he uses from time to time too.

Wow that took ages to type. Great reading all the other stories too :)

    A Cherokee Jeep
    Two Ford Sierras
    Two Ford Escorts
NSU Prinz (which went on fire at one point, at another time he fell asleep at the wheel, mounted the ditch and managed to land it on its roof in the middle of the road, engine still running, got out and hefted it back on its wheels again and carried on as if nothing happened)
A Wolsley (an Elf I think)
Ford E83W 10cwt pick up truck (I've recovered the remains of this recently and found the taxbook in a box)
A massive Sunbeam motorbike and a Royal Enfield back in the day.

I think there were Morris Minors, Poplars and Anglias bogging about as well, tho don't know if they were his or the uncles'.

My earliest memory is being driven around in A ford Orion similar to this one!
My older brother (17)used to drive (show off) out on the beach through the salt water!. It got so badly eaten with rust that the rear bumper brackets went and the bumper kept falling off while out driving on the road!.

Sunnys were great, very little trouble from them! About 18 months ago I had the pleasure of seeing my old 1991 one still driving and looking fresh. I still see a few more around.

I bought the Sunny off my dad when he traded up.

He had a fair few bangers back in the 80s/90s - Opel Kadett, Triumph Acclaim, Bucket o' rust Toyota Corolla (K20 I think) to mention but a few. We were always pushing them down the driveway to help start them.
