As you may know a Waterford buisness man was on trial for rape of a Croatian "escort", he was found guilty and today was sentenced to 5 years.

Is this the Billy Keogh of Waste disposal fame or someone else?

edit - just heard is it him.

    Mike.

I heard from the grapevine, aka twitching curtain brigade that it was the refuse collection guy. He used to collect my rubbish in town onceuponatime.

I heard on the radio that he got 2 years, not 5.

If that's the case it seems a short sentence for someone who pleaded not guilty and was found guilty, normally sentences in that case are higher.

I had been reliably informed by a Garda that he was facing about 8 years.

He got 5, but the final 3 are suspended.

Didn't know there was/is an escort scene in Waterford:confused:

He got what he deserved all the same, raping the girl by removing condom.

Pity his poor wife is all.

And yet the judge reduced his sentence, saying he was a man of 'god character'. How can someone who raped someone be described as such?

Unfortunately, he didn't get what he deserved. A maximum of 2 years in jail, will probably be out within 18 months. To be honest thats not enough. I'm sorry, but
a man of 'good character'. should not be using prostitutes on a regular basis in the first place, but he even went as far as raping one.

Indeed but I assume the judge was looking outside "the box". His character normally compared to the crime. Didnt someone in government give a character reference and then get in trouble for doing so? Or was that a diffferent case?

But yes, 2 years is certinally not enough. Fair enough a smaller sentence of some degree but 2 years is a complete joke.

Btw, his wife is sticking with him.

where does all this good character bullshhit come from anyway? talk to anyone who knew him and they'll tell you he used to batter the wife, and that business wise he was a fuccking scam artist. honestly i hope some scumbag jailbird kicks him down a flight of stairs, maybe then the prick will learn a lesson or two

Agreed, I know judges hate manditory sentences but a minimium should required with latitude for not making it any longer!

That defies belief. And, as you say, it is a complete joke. As others have pointed out, mandatory sentencing is the way forward. 20 years for rape, 30 for drugs, 40 for murder and so on. No release for paedophiles.

Interestingly he apprently impersonated a Garda during the assault. Surely this in itself demanded a heavy sentence - even leaving the rape to one side.

There's no thinking 'outside the box' where rape is concerned Sully. You'll appreciate that when you have your own daughters. A rapist of good character. Only in Ireland.

I'm just curious but do you mean drug dealers or drug users should be given 10 more years than rapists. Just curious???
