Well folks. Quick one for some genius out there.
Have an old (well very old) Phillips PC running Windows 98 SE.
Anyways long story short gave it to the old folks to mess round with , learn etc. Whatever they have managed to do, on boot up, there is a very repetitive beeping & neither keyboard or mouse works.
Windows will only boot in safe mode& hangs.
I've tried loading from recovery disk, CD etc & cause board or mouse is uncooperative cannot try reformat.

Does anyone have any quick fixes, or is it only a paperweight now (although i'm aware it already is a paperweight being over 8 years old).

The beeping you are describing usually points to a hardware issue in the tower. I would open her up and try removing/replacing cards one at a time until you identify if one of them is goosed.
    98 SE eh? The nostalgia!

also try taking the memory out and if that works try putting them in one at a time
have a look here to see which beep code you are getting http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

how long did your parents have the pc before it started making this beeping noise?

Frankly though, at this stage, its not worth your time trying to fix it. With such an old pc you could spend days troubleshooting the problem only to find out that is because some piece of hardware failed that nobody stocks replacements for anymore.

The cheapest PC from DELL will probably be 1000 times better than that 8 year old PC
