nooooooo! I on obviously missed a lot of the action today. now I am all alone on the ronaldo front. kroygen was the only one agreeing with me that ronaldo was never going to leave and all be he wanted was a better contract regarding image rights. he was just playing the media all along. I dont think I have the energy of time to keep the argument on my own. might have to earn myself a ban.

sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes I am drunk.

So he's gonna go to Barca when he eventually goes to Spain in 2-4 years time then? Because if he f'ucks about without Real and strings them along I doubt they won't forget it.

One thing is for sure, he'll leave United in around 2 maybe 3 years time, and probably will play again for Sporting in some part of his career.

German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is a £10m target for Manchester United and Chelsea. (Daily Star)

I'm deligthed by this. Hope it comes true

Same here. He wouldn't be a bad signing and I was reading the other day he's only 24 so there's plenty of years left in him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭Smegball

It is the Daily Star though :(

He would be a good signing alright, wonder would he be let go for the ten and whether chelsea may start to get involved once they realise that Man U are after him, may suit them a bit having Ballack in there already too.

Did you not read from Skuds post both Manchester United and Chelsea were reported to be after him, so if you believe those papers you dont have to wonder. What I wonder is how you forgot the 'td' or 'nited'

    lol.... the plot thickens......

off topic, but I'd murder a KFC now after reading your post Dave...stupid I know but at first I misread thickens for chickens (it happens when you're hungry)! And couldnt help myself after reading the Liverpool thread what was posted in there. Some of us are football fans as well as Manchester United fans. I love chicken!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

I didn't forget, I never say nited or td. Nor do the BBC or many of the major broadcasting organisations. I do not see you kicking off on their websites. Anyway I reckon that Chelsea, if they really were looking for it would be favourites for schweinsteiger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

Meh I don't rate him anyway, I'd be happy to see him go to Chelski

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,852 ✭✭✭✭Nalz

I never "kicked off" to begin with!

based on the suggestions in your original Man United

    + 1

Not convinced he should be brought to the club either..he seems a little bit one dimensional..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

That was the name of the thread I was quoting, surely you can see a difference. And TBH when I said never, I probably should have said not often. Never is far too long term.

So are you going to address the on topic part of what I posted or whinge about some perceived slight ? I would say that he is probably better than carrick anyway and gives you something a little different to that other German lad Hargreaves :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,852 ✭✭✭✭Nalz

I might ROFL at the fact theres a few Liverpool fans posting in here!

He's different to Carrick but probably more effective. I can't see it happening to be honest, I think if any type of players are coming to United it will be either a fullback, winger or an out and out striker (a number 10). Who is another question...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

Am i to assume you purposely misquoted me ?

He is certainly different to Carrick, better footballer and moves well. Probably not as good going backwards but that is not as important as somebody who is going to do what Scholes used to do so well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Isn't he more of a winger than a central midfielder?

Fergie is back from holidays today isnt he? maybe things will start to pick up now with the transfers. I hate waiting around for somethin to happen. so impatient :p

Schweinstieger would be a good singing imo. A classic winger, a more attacking less enegetic Park with a good end product.

Doesnt get his game at Bayern so i could see him leaving.

Alanmurphy im on your side with the Ronaldo thing. But you wont see me argrue about it anymore, far too many people have opinions based on the media who know nothing. Nobody knows anything, because, guess what... He hasnt said anything!

Also, T4TF, that big dirty "USED TO" in your Scholes comment kind of ticked me off. lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,255 ✭✭✭anonymous_joe

Where are the reports of Schweinsteiger coming from?

Certainly wouldn't be unhappy about him, but not sure he's quite good enough for us.

That should tell you something, he is brutal. With him and Park on the wings i could see United becoming draw specialists like Liverpool.

Whoever compared him to Carrick? You might as well compared him to Van Der Saar, completely different players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,446 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I'd like us to sign him, but as an addition to the current squad rather than a replacement for Ronaldo - I reckon he would be a very good option to have - better than park and giggs, possibly better than Nani for the moment too.

I think it was the people yesterday and the telegraph.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/06/29/ufnbastian129.xml

both papers said it was a contingency plan in case ronaldo left. But that could be a load of horse. [EDIT]: I agree with Tauren and see it as an addition to the squad rather than a ronaldo replacement.[/EDIT] Schweinstieger is a good player. Think he'd benefit from playing at a higher level and having a new challenge. I hope it does go through because "12million" for a replacement for giggs would be worth it. Obv fergie and carlos see something in the lad. Their signings have been spot on lately.

tbh I wasn't impressed at all...

He lacks something, the semi final match he played much better than last night. I don't think United is the place for him

A player who can't get a game for Bayern Munich shouldn't be a target for Manchester United.

I hope we sign Anna Ivanovic, er i mean Maria Kirilenko, er i mean Maria Sharapova. Womens tennis anyone?

Santa Cruz couldn't really get much of a game for them, he did very well for Blackbur last season.

I reckon the pig mounter could be a very decent signing, not world beating, but a damned good squad signing. As said, better than Park or Giggs.

For every Santa Cruz there is a 5 x Pizzaro's

Giggs, Park, Fletcher even Hargreaves are Uniteds squad players, we have plenty we don't need more.

You're talking rubbish. He made 46 apps for Bayern last season. I don't think Ronaldo made many more for Utd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,446 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Giggs is surely done, Parkisn't good enough in the final third and I'd play Schweinstiger out wide, so not really much to do with Hargreaves or Fletcher.

Personally I think we should be looking at bringing in a winger even if Ronaldo stays, i think the pig mounter would be a fairly good option.

err all depends on what striker we buy and transfer funds available. Berb and Benzema are being priced out of our budget atm if you believe the press

Looks like we will only be signing one player this summer according to Fergie, so the pig farmer is unlikely if we are lead to believe a top striker will be our number one priority.
I wouldn't think (we would buy) any more than one player

Ah well, as long as its a striker.

Though I do still feel we need defensive cover.

Fergie rarely says anything different from we will be looking at one or two additions. Hopefully we can get something sorted in the next few weeks so we can all argue discuss an actually signing rather than rumors.

I just hope he doesn't become complacent... Squads can always be improved, and it would be a shame if other teams strengthen their own weaknesses while we settle for what we have. That's of course not to say that we have a weak team -- we do have alot of depth in the squad (if nobody leaves!). I guess if we're only buying 1, then that means it's more likely to be a big name!

    Full thing here:

Sir Alex Ferguson expects the end of Euro 2008 to herald a busy spell in the transfer market but insists Manchester United will not be rushing to spend.

The United manager has targets, but after a season in which his team won the Premier League and Champions League he is confident in the quality they already possess and could settle on just one new arrival.

Ferguson said: "The European Championship derails transfer activity. Nothing really happens when the championships are on.

"Obviously, now that is all over, people settle down.

"Managers are back at their clubs and you can get some dialogue now if they are interested, but I wouldn't think (we would buy) any more than one player.

"We are looking at one or two things."

Ferguson will continue to monitor movement in the market but does not see many transfer dealings being straightforward.

He said: "People think it's easy to buy players nowadays, but it's not because money plays a big part first of all.

"Clubs with ambitions don't want to sell their best players, so it's not as easy as you'd think and we tend to look for younger ones."

Ferguson was speaking at the Great Scots Cup charity golf event, held at the Carrick course by Loch Lomond where he is the honorary captain.

Proceeds from the event were to be donated to Ferguson's charity, Elizabeth Hardy Ferguson Trust Fund, and the Children's Hospice Association Scotland.

He said before he was looking for an experienced attacking like Giggs, so another winger (which I do think we need)
At the same time, I would be disappointed if we finished the summer with just Manucho and Saha able to lead the line.

Experienced winger (Seedorf?) and a new striker (Berbatov) would be an ideal summer for me.

Can't remember him talking about an experienced winger. But I think a 32 year old Seedorf would be a bit too experienced. He also said in that quote that we try to look at younger players. I think next season with Nani/Ronaldo/Giggs/Park we are alright on the wings. Would prefer to see another young player come in ala ronaldo/nani than somebody in their 30's.

I would take Berbatov if the price is right. Anything above €20mill is too much IMO.

Wouldnt be too gone on Seedorf tbh.

    Ronaldinho.

    Seriously.

    Would be an awesome signing.

Fergie could get him motivated again i reckon, and a motivated Ronaldinho would still be arguably the best player in the world again. Creatively his is amazing and his vision is second to none. He'd be my number one target this summer, regardless of what Ronaldo does.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭wheres me jumpa

All our transfers will hinge on Ronaldo, which is why we need a resolution to that asap. I believe Schweinsteiger would be a better player than Park, Giggs (at this stage) and possibly Nani(he more than likley will improve). However, as a replacement to Ronaldo, he would struggle to have a fraction of the impact Ronaldo had on our season.

We do need a striker, unless we have some guarantee on Saha's fitness/Manucho is capable of making an impact on the Premiership.

One signing only? What about the Ronaldo cash? Unless we're gonna buy really big...!

    Messi :D

Ronaldinho though.... available and i would imagine very interested if AC Milan aren't calling...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

Yeah, Ronaldinho revives his career at Old Trafford...Ronaldo who? Hmm, well he very nearly signed when he left PSG didn't he? The weather probably put him off...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

Plus, it would be yet another Portugese-speaker for Ron, Nani, and Ando's gang :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

Yeah, Quieroz uses his influential multi-lingual skills again...!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,446 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

So, we're agreed - Ronaldinho is to become the number 1 target for United fans.... to the SIGS! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

Yeah - and while not getting too far ahead of myself - when he signs, we should give him a nickname, similar to the innovative Viper attached to Ronaldo for much of last season...
