M Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold definitely needs a mention, he is actually amazing, and equally so, if not better, live.

I agree that he is a good vocalist, but the songs are a bit too teeny-rock for him to attain any real credit from critics of the genre. It's a shame really!

    Thom Yorke
    Jeff Buckley
    Phil Lynott
    Kurt Cobain
    Black Francis
    Ian Curtis
    Win Butler
    Matt Berninger

Personally I think Jorn Lande is the best out there right now.

Of all time I'd say (in no particular order)
    Freddie Mercury
    Paul Rodgers
    David Coverdale
    Ronnie James Dio

    Randy Blythe
    Dez Fafara

Yes he is a good vocalist, but is he worthy of mentioning in "best rock/metal singer" category? I think not.

Funny that — his annoying (imo) voice is the reason I don't listen to Dream Theater. I really can't stand him

    These are only my opinions:

    Pop
    - Art Garfunkel, Micheal Jackson, George Micheal, Adele, and it kills me to say it Christina Aguilera.

Rock - My three Vocal Idols: Freddie Mercury, Jeff Buckley & Layne Stayley (RIP), Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, the amazing Myles Kennedy, Steve Tyler, the egotist Ed Kowalczyk (Live) the much maligned Morrisey, and the much underrated Paul Rodgers, the new kid on the block Johnny Craig and finally the only female in my list Skin (Skunk Anansie), absolutely awe inspiring singer and entertainer.

Blues/Soul - B.B. King, Levon Helm, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Etta James & Ray Charles

Hard Rock - Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickenson, Brian Johnson, Ozzy.

Metal -Corey Taylor, Phil Anselmo, Manne Ikkonen (Ghost Brigade), Mikeal Akerfeldt, Chris Ojeda (Byzantine), Thomas Lindberg (At the Gates) and my favourite Jessie Leach (Seemless and ex Killswitch)

Hope I won't be in trouble with the mods for (again) resurrecting this thread.

I am amazed that it too Jemmaa on page 10 to mention one of the GREATEST voices in Rock...and up to now, still the only person to do so.

So, I am happy to make sure He is mentioned twice:

    Rock On David Gilmour

For me the best singers in rock and metal are:

    Bruce Dickinson
    Jesse Leach
    Ian Gillan
    Freddy Mercury
    Phil Anselmo
    David Lee Roth
    Corey Taylor

These are just in my opinion now...

    Chris Cornell (Versatility)

    Eddie Vedder (Nice unique voice)

Phil Anselmo (Beautiful singing voice as well as sheer power and rawness - huge range and control displayed in Cemetary Gates especially)

Ozzy Osbourne (He can't sing but I love his style and the way his sings in the rhythm of the riffs)

Haha, just saw I posted in here 3 years ago! :D

Amy Lee (evanescence) - has the kind of voice which is strong yet melodic and can bring tears to your eyes with certain songs.

Ozzy Osbourne - Have to agree with the above poster, not famous for his singing voice but how he matches his voice to the song.

Singer - Vince Neil (Motley Crue)
    Frontman - Freddie Mercury

If your talking about the best ever then Robert Plant would be mine but my favourite singer was Jon Anderson of Yes.
