I've dumped backup exec for Symantec system Restore to external USB disks. Hated Backup exec.... and not I can restore to 1 hour previous at any time.

You know what? I don't even care that this thread hasn't been touched for nearly 5 years - I hate this product so much I'm going to scream into the empty void of a dead thread about it anyway!

BE 2012's interface is indecipherable, the program itself is very sensitive and at times just plain unpredictable (i.e jobs failing just cos they feel like it, etc) and the customer service/ tech support is feckin' amateur hour! When you call the tech support number the recording actually recommends that you hang up and try their forums rather than tie up the lines.

Fun fact: Backup Exec 2012 ver. 14.0 cannot exclude files types from a restore job. Previous versions could do this no probs
So I guess Im stuck backing up 200GB's of music and BS that my staff have been hoarding on their personal drives when before I used to be able to just exclude anything ending in "*.MP3".

Fun Fact no.2: Doing a Push Install of the BE agent to another server doesn't work at all, so you have to copy files and folders from the media server, over to the agent server and install the agent manually. Total rookie developer BS

Fun Fact no 3: The interface for BE 2012 is without a doubt the most needlessly complicated, poorly designed mishmash of desktop-meets-tablet-fuc*ery that I have ever seen. Its obviously designed to be finger-swiped from tab to tab but seriously - who the f*ck runs their backups from their iPad????:mad::mad:

And I refer you here for further bugs/gripes from other sys admins (this stuff just couldn't be made up) http://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/173f0k/seriously_does_anyone_have_a_good_opinion_of/
