Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sony Viao Laptop Crashing

    Hi Lads,

I collected my laptop of one of my girlfriends friends (who said she did nothing to it, it just started happening) basically cant start the computer to windows, it crashes loading up the home page.
I went into safe mode, backed up my files and reinstalled xp.
So everything was working fine, started installing the drivers and the error is happening again now when I try and install the graphics driver (Windows is only fillling half the screen without it)
When I install the graphics driver and restart I'm getting the blue screen.
I'm guessing it's a hardware fault cause I've wiped the comp and the error remains, I was just looking for some advice!

    Thanks
    Gary

are you sure you have the right driver ??

if you can get the mchine to just boot basic vga (640x480) then try installing a program like Aida32.

What this program does is talk to you machine and tells you what hardware you have installed (ram cpu graphics sounds etc)

    http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.html?qt=aida32&tag=srch&tg=dl-20

If you can install XP then you can install this, just have a look at the bottom of the AIDA report to see your video card manufacturer.

Then go get the proper driver again

    hope this helps.

All VAIO's within 2(ish) years old have an internal recovery partition.

Boot the machine, and when BIOS loads (VAIO logo appears) press F10.

Choose complete recovery. This loads all of the origonal drivers and programs.

Sony ususally edit's nvidia's drivers, i dunno why but i've been down this road before.

IF the problem still happens on Sony's drivers, it's definatelly a fault and you'll have to contact the retailer for help/advise

IF you removed the recovery partition when loading your own OS, you'll have to get a recovery disk set specific for your model number.

I have a few VAIO's, if you need the disk set, PM your model number and you make be lucky...
