I am looking to get a new bike, hopefully an entry level road bike as the ones I have tested just move so much better than hybrids but my price range is moe in the area of highbrids. Dont want to spend over 600 euro.

Been looking at Giant SCR 4
    https://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=35&idproduct=18165

    and BH L12
    http://www.bhbikes.com/en/catalogo/2008/carretera/L12M_2008.html

    or possibly a Specialised Sirrus
    http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=33594

Would I be losing alot of speed by opting for something like the Sirrus or a similar hyrbrid with a road bike set up.

Could anybody reccommend any other bikes maybe. I do a 6mile each way commute every day and am also getting into Sprint Triathlons, but dont picture myself doing any really long cycles +50km. I am more comfortable on flat bars, how long to or would I be able to realistically be comfortable on drop bars cycling around town.

    Thanks for you help

    Brian

for triathlons alone I'd say go with the drops, you would be able to put aero bars on these a lot easier than on a flat barr'd bike (more real-estate available on the drop bars than on the flats) and you'll be able to get a more aerodynamic position on the drops than on flat bars anyway.
Will take you about 10 mins to get used to the drops.

I was thinking I might regret not getting a drop bar bike. The only one I've come accross for the price range is the Giant SC4 for 512, saw a Dawes also for 500. Took the BH out for a test ride (flat bar) and really liked the feel of it. Would there be much difference between the BH and Giant?

Not sure where you're based so this may not suit you, but I found the following in Kearney's in Galway yesterday...

    http://www.sprintmaxcom.com/e-shop/index.php?step=module_action&modname=pricelist&modaction=details&product=469&product_cat=112&lang=1&

Have a thread asking about it already, and first couple of opinions seem to be good about the components at that price.
Don't know if any other shops stock them though.

Edit - he also had tri-bars setup on it on the display model and said it would be a nice bike for starting out in triathlons.

    Hi Bsten,

I have a Giant SCR 4 2008 (black and white) that I bought from Cycleways on Parnell Street last October. I have it fitted with Shimano clipless pedals(which cost 45 euro) though you'll need spd shoes to click into them. You could always get a set of normal pedals if you don't want to buy the shoes yet. I'm looking for 425 euro for it.

If you're interested let me know. I'm based in Dublin.

    Good luck in Athy!
