    Folks..

I've given up on spending more than €5K on the second car in the house but I do >25K a year..

    I'd consider a 2.2D Merc like this...
107K miles and service history up to 70K,

    Any experience of these..

    Thanks

A friend has one with 150k on it. First of all they're slow as this model has no turbo, its a NA diesel. Also you'll get 40-45mpg tops.

As far as drawbacks that's about it, its a very comfortable, solid car on the road and the only problem he ever had on it was wheel studs snapping in the wheelhub after a garage had overtightned them. When the hub came off he took out the front wheelbearing to have a look. Its a conical bearing on a grubscrew, takes seconds to change! Very good car for motorway driving too, tracks straight for miles.

I think it performed poorly in the NCAP retrospective tests tho.

    HI..
Seller came down to €3300 over phone..
He claims usual stuff... not crashed, abused, stolen etc
I've left it with him that if he'll come down to €3000 I'd go and see car..

Probably a bit on the cheeky side but its an older car, its been up there for 2 months already and I think the market is weak....

You should go see the car with 60 x €50 notes in your pocket, and if there car's a good un, wave it under his nose. I reckon he'd take the hand off ya.

Don't forget to get 50 quid back off him for luck though! ;)
