Is there a stat available for Crouch's goal to minute ratio? and other premiership strikers? i can never seem to find one

In terms of young players at Liverpool I want to see them play for Championship teams or even lower Premiership teams but only if it's likely they get first team football... we need to see this young talent develop...

Arsenal did great with loaning players to Brimingham...could we form a similar relationship with a Championship team?

I know that in the 06/07 season he scored a goal for every 82 mins for England, and a goal for every 92 mins for Liverpool.

In the prem alone he was 10th highest, but that doesn't count Europe, FA Cup or League Cup.

I'll take a look for more info now.

He was better the previous season.

Real's pursuit of Ronaldo is emerging as the transfer saga of the summer, with the Spanish giants hoping to lure the Portuguese ace to El Santiago Bernabeu.

Ronaldo has yet to declare what his intentions are, with United adamant they do not want to sell the 23-year-old maestro.

Arbeloa, speaking in Austria where is he preparing for Spain's Euro 2008 semi-final with Russia, believes the departure of Ronaldo from Old Trafford would provide a boost for arch-rivals Liverpool.

"If Ronaldo plays in Real Madrid it will be good news because he is one of the best players in the world and is our enemy at the moment," Arbeloa told Sky Sports News.

"If he can play for Real Madrid for me it is perfect.

"For us it would be a good news because for Manchester United he is very important and if Ronaldo is not in Manchester for Liverpool it is good."

    At least he's honest!

True. I would like to see him go as well, and then for him to knock out the Mancs singlehandedly after being rubbish all season for Real :)

Couldnt care less about him.He is without a doubt the most unlikeable footballer in world football.

Arbeloa's dead right. Could be a bit turbulent for our three main rivals this year. I hope G&H kiss and make up and trust Rafa for two more big signings. Despite all the circus, last season we acquired two world class players and another good high-potential one (Babel). Still optimistic here.

Would anyone consider Skrtel a possible world class player??

Based on his performances I have seen I would say he has it in him.

absolutely with united losing ronaldo, arsenal losing flamini and potentially helb and adebayor and i dont put much faith in scolari, so i think if we get our act together and our signings fit in we could have a chance without really stepping up our performance that much on last season.

lets pray Torres deosnt suffer from a bout of SSS!!

I'm optimistic about Kuyt hitting form and also I think Voronin mightn't be as bad as he is portrayed (his ridiculous WWE/pornstar looks make him hard to take seriously but he's not useless).

I doubt Torres will get 30 again this season but he'll create a lot of space for somebody else - Gerrard, Babel or Kuyt could have bumper scoring seasons playing with him.

No, what has he played 15 odd games, has the Term World Class been diluted that much in 2008?

Untid might lose Ronaldo but it means they would have up to £80m to spend.

Nail on the head. However, if he keeps playing as he has, he may earn that title. He really has been immense.

there will be no way they will replace ronaldo with any player in the world who will get 31 pl goals next season no matter how much money they have.

They coul dredesign their forward line with that money and get a 20 -25 goal striker. the other 5 or 6 goals could be picked up elsewhere. Sure whoever takes over the peno taking duties will have a free shot at the 5 or 6 anyway.

    Good Post

Of course Ronaldo can't be replaced, the goals can and will be. He got 17 in the league last year, United scored more last year than they did with him scoring 31 this year.

To think United will struggle without Ronaldo is Naive, if he leaves the team will be strengthed, new systems will be devised, old systems will be compensated for.

oh i do agree but i dont think they will be the same team next year with out him, it may be only a difference of 6 points but that's enough. i dont think they will finish 10th or something crazy like that but he was an integral part of the team last year with the formation built around him imho. it will take time to adjust to life without him.

It's enough to be overtaken by a close challenger, not for us to win the league though (barring massive improivements that I cant see happening)

How was that diluting "World Class"? I was asking does it look like he could be a possible world class player... i.e. he isn't now but could he be in a few years.

if united dropped 6 points, no-one else made any gains and liverpool got 4 more, we would win the league, whats with the negative attitude?

not saying that is going to happen, just an example.

If we dont sign some top attacking talent (I'm talking about players in the 18m+ bracket) I see us coming at the very most, 3rd next season. Manchester Utd won the league & the European Cup last season and have a fantastic squad. Regardless of Ronaldo staying or going, they are going to strengthen this summer. I fully expect them to sign a top class striker and full back. If Ronaldo goes, they will also reinvest alot of the money they make from his sale.

Chelsea finished above us even though they had an off year & Scholari is being given massive amounts of money to improve the team. Even without improvement, their team is much stronger than ours. Hopefully they will be unsettled with all the chopping and changing.

Arsenal seem to be losing some key players. A lot will depend on who they sign and how well Nasri adapts. I predict that they wont have as good a season as they had last year.

As I said, unless we sign some top class attacking players we will be battling Arsenal & Spurs for 3rd/4th/5th. I think Spurs will be a force to be reckoned with next season.

/pessimist - my attitude will change dramatically depending on who we sign though! I dont think we are far off. We dont need loads of players. One top class wide attacker, a back up winger and a back up striker would do the team wonders.

If Utd dropped 6, 5 points would get us level with them. We also finished 7 behind Arsenal and 9 behind Chelsea.

Our shocking record against the above 3 teams needs adressing very quickly.

People keep talking about how United won the league this year because they won the mini league and that was the difference. But the thing is, Chelsea almost won the league without doing well in the mini league.

THe mini league is important no doubt, but doing well against the rest of the league can get around it. United this year were poor against a lot of crap teams, but made up for it with the mini league. I can't imagine they'll mess up as much next year against the crap teams but then again it'll be tough to do as well in the mini league.

sorry bad maths on my behalf! the mini league is vital to us really, we really need to be seeing some improvement in that respect.

Exactly! The mini-league was the difference. If they did better in the mini-league, they'd have been champions. Chelsea may have picked apart the weaker teams, but they finished second because they couldnt take enough points from Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Arsenal are lining up a move for Liverpool striker Peter Crouch as a replacement for Barcelona target Emmanuel Adebayor. (Daily Mirror)

Crouch is also a target for Tottenham who want to sign the England striker along with team-mate Yossi Benayoun for a combined fee of £15m. (Daily Mail)

Both complete and utter bull i have no doubt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,587 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

Probably, but Crouch would be a good replacement for Berbatov. Don't really know where Yossi would fit in at Spurs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,095 ✭✭✭zing

He's also been linked to Citeh this morning. Pompey seem to be his preferred destination but it would be good to have a few clubs bidding for him.

Torres was on his time off from the Spain squad, so he decided to play ball for 45mins with a few of the local kids he saw playing.

Seriously, we are lucky to have this lad at our club, top bloke.

I really hope they didnt let the little manc play, or at least stuck him in goals ;)

Sorry I didnt make that clear enough:

    Total Points:

    Man Utd: 87
    Chelsea : 85
    Arsenal : 83
    Liverpool : 76

    Points outside the top 4:

    Man Utd: 74
    Chelsea : 78
    Arsenal : 77
    Liverpool : 72

Points from the top 4 mini-league:

    Man Utd: 13
    Chelsea: 7
    Arsenal : 6
    Liverpool : 4

In this case, the mini-league wasn't just the difference, it was the reason United were there. They lost in the rest of the league to both Chelsea and Arsenal. The mini-league pulled them back.
The point however is that Chelsea almost won the league, indeed pretty much lost the league on goal difference.

    The mini-league saved Utd.

When people keep saying all they need to do is take more points off the top 4 to do better, they don't realise that it's a combination. You need to either win the mini-league or win the rest of the league league.

The season before, Arsenal strolled through the mini-league, but lost the whole thing significantly.

Rumour has it he is not starting tonight, Villa up top on his own.

Less chance of injury so. sweet.

would've thought that Torres would be better up top on his own than Villa though.

Not really my concern. but i'd be suprised.

    Taken from another forum:

    Source from Melwood says-

Rafa, Parry and Eduardo the scout spent yesterday in meetings with various agents - all were representing Spanish or South American players.

Rafa was very happy by the end of the day.

Gareth Barry has placed a deposit on a house and is waiting on O'Neill to say he can move on.

Milner will be arriving with Guthrie the makeweight in the deal after Rafa refused to let Insua be part of it all.

Thats all folks.................until Monday when the players return to training and Tuesday when everything will be going crazy when the transfer window officially opens.

Errr, PHB - you do realize that you have just disproved your original argument with those stats ?

    1) Your original argument was that Chelsea almost won the league without doing well in the mini league.

    2) The counter argument to that was that if they had done better in the mini league they would have won the league.

    3) You then post up stats that show if Chelsea had of taken more points from the mini league, they would have been ahead of Utd as they gained more points from the rest of the league.

    Milner-ew!
Is he gonna be replacing pennant?
Read on the bbc gossip page that there was a 15m bid placed for yossi and crouch. Think it was newcastle.
    Edit: it was spurs.
The mirror reported that arsenal could table a bid for crouch since adeyb. will probably leave.

i get wat you're saying but that would obviously not be our number 1 line up. eg with the mancs; they could quite easily have Dong and O'Shea in the same team. Or Fletcher and O'Shea. doesnt make them ****. get me?

I'm gonna start saving these quotes people.
I've got a good feeling that Andriy "The Game" Voronin is going to be pedegreeing your collective faces into them next season.

I still remember exactly how vehement some of the sentiment towards Dirk was at the halfway ppoint last year, and how quickly that changed.

Don't want Milner at all. A winger should have either great pace or great guile. He doesn't appear to have either. He's no better than Pennant.
