Wooden Floor meets Concrete problem

Moving into a house that was built in the 1930's with wooden floors downstairs. Previous owners had tagged on a extension with a concrete floor back in the 70's. Problem is the concrete is the same level as the wooden floor and is currently covered with carpet. Would like to floor the extension with wood to the same level and looking for options. Only idea I can think of is to raise the original wooden floor to the same level as the concrete but would be a good bit of work. Any other option out there, any way to 'reduce' the level of concrete to match the floor or is there a third way? Thanks.

It is a bit of a problem alright the only solution i can really see with this is one you have already mentioned which is to lay your ne wooden floor over the extension with the concrete floor and the existing 1930's wooden floor. as long as you have a pretty seamless run in between the two floors you souldnt have a problem just roll your underlay over the whole floor area to be re floored and lay your new timber down whether it be laminate , semi solid or solid. Just make sure that the existing floor is not uneven....if it is use some quick set self leveling compound which will sort it out

You can get trim that caters for a certain change in level, not too sure how severe the "step" you're talking about is though and if the trim would help to take it out.
