how do folks? at the minute i'm getting bored looking at the skirting and door frames in a couple of the rooms in my house. i've decided they'd look better painted, but the problem is those badboys are varnished. is it much of a job to paint over? does the varnish need to be completely removed? sanded down? stripped…

at the minute i'm getting bored looking at the skirting and door frames in a couple of the rooms in my house. i've decided they'd look better painted, but the problem is those badboys are varnished. is it much of a job to paint over? does the varnish need to be completely removed? sanded down? stripped chemically? (without spending a fortune hiring someone etc.) whats the dealio kids?

just leave them, and angle your chair a different way so you dont see

life is far too short for using nitmores on skirting boards amd no one will notice

I did something like that before, i just sanded down the door (which was varnished), and painted over, its still grand!!!

All the door frames in our old property were varnished and I painted the lot with an oil based interior undercoat and gloss. I lightly rubbed the varnished surfaces first to help key the undercoat, but I didn't try to remove the varnish - just rought it up a bit. Two coats of undercoat killed the natural colour and the gloss finished it. Looked fine and I had no problems with it after it had hardened.
