i'm just starting a small extension, one that is below the 40 square metre limit for planning permission. i have drawn a sketch of the plan myself and plan to do most of the building myself.
however there is a sewer running through the back garden which services the 4 houses in our row. i was wondering if i could build over this sewer?
i would be ensuring that the sewer would be bridged whereever necessary using lintels etc. i think its about 600mm deep.

The local authority will have an easement on this strip of ground that contains the sewer. If you can convince the sanitary engineer that your proposal will never interfere with the sewer and that accesses to it can still be maintained then you are in with a chance.

A legal right of access for maintenance.
