    Hi Folks,

I haven't read a book that wasn't technical for it must be about twenty years.

when I was kid I used to read books like the famous five etc.

So considering I haven't read for the majority of my adult life is there any books you could recommend that would slowly introduce me back into reading.

Try Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson. Very quick pace to it, not too long and will have you in stitches from start to finish.

How about a good old-fashioned adventure yarn?!
Something like Frederick Forsythe's "The Dogs of War".

Then you can ease yourself into cult novels, fantasy. sci-fi etc.

What kind of movies do you watch?

    Heat
    Casino
    The Godfather's

Ditto, had me laughing the whole way through!

The Restraint of Beasts by Magnus Mills is good read, very funny and not too long if you want something short and sweet to ease yourself into it :)

    How about History books?
A good way to get back into reading is short stories. Annie Prouix, Leo Tolstoy, Garrison Keillor all do it for me, in no particular order btw I just think they have a kind of feel good factor.

Paul Auster could be worth a look too...

You might enjoy Cryptonomicon or Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson - both are long and detailed, but both should appeal to those of a technical inclination.

I also think Lonesome Dove is one of those books that it is impossible to not love, no matter how highbrow or lowbrow you like your books.

The Big Lebowski is my favourite movie of all time. (Highbrow, I know...)

Much as I'd love to recommend Catch 22 I'm not sure it's the first novel you want to read in 20 years. The most rewarding books can be tough going, as Catch 22 can be.

Why not try the new James Bond novel!
I'll probably give it a go, having loved the old ones 15 yrs ago. :)

The big Lebowski is one of my all time fav movies to ,perhaps even my number 1 :)

.As sombody suggested an authobiography can be a good way to ease yourself back into a good read .I recently finished two good books ,one on the kennedys ( Destiny and Dynasty ) and the other about Ike (Eishenhower) .
