It was announced today that American Airlines will stop operating to JFK from Stansted at the end of july. So its goodbye to any trans atlantic routes from Stansted they blame the rocketing fuel prices. They started flights in October last year and postponed the introduction of a 2nd flight untill later on this year.

American have announced a lot of cost-cutting measures lately... charge on second checked bag, dropped a number of routes, reduced # of flights on routes etc.

In March, they grounded 80 of their MD-80 fleet (~340 flights) resulting in travel choas across the US. That must have cost them a pretty penny.
