Couldn't find anywhere else to post so i'll ask here. Are licenses only issued if you are a member of a gun/pistol club? Say you live in Ireland and when your not working you want to store your pistol with you for a purely legal career is it possible to get a license also does anyone know the procedures or if there is any to bring a pistol into/out of the country maybe 2/3 times a year?

Ok, not ment too talk about it much for security reasons but its to do with vip protection. I live in Ireland and will be moving in and out of the country a few times a year and cant find anything or where to go about bring firearms in and out of the country purely for storage while im not working.

Moved to a separate thread since it's really a separate topic.

You won't be licensed a pistol here for anything other than target shooting. Usually the Gardai will insist that you're a member of a club.

    [EDIT]
If you're open and honest with the Gardai about exactly what you're doing, they may issue you a license. It will really depend on your local Superintendent. Have a chat with him/her or your local firearms officer and they'll set you straight.
    [/EDIT]

surely if its for vip protection then you would be taking guidance from your
employers on that score.....nip down to your local gardai station and have a chat with the firearms officer, hell put you right.

Sorry about that, thanks. So being a member of gun club is the only way to get a license for a pistol? You don't know if there is anyway to bring the firearm in or out of the country ,I've looked into a bit and doesn't look possible though!?

If you have a license for it you can bring it in and out all you like provided you have the necessary paperwork for the other country you're travelling to/from.

Getting the license in your case will be the tricky bit I imagine.

Try Walter Mitty thread in military forum.

How many countries in this part of the world allow private citizens involved in private security capacity to carry firearms ?

If this gets personal I'm infracting and banning anyone who pitches in. You have been warned.

I am not getting personal. I reckon that poster is going somewhere that we cannot go

That warning was as much for any other poster as it was for you.

The OP wanted to know about storage only, not use. Hence he avoided the ban on discussion of self-defence/RKBA.

Yes - you will need to attend the club and/or competitions to keep the license as the only reason you can have one is for target shooting.
Say you live in Ireland and when your not working you want to store your pistol with you for a purely legal career is it possible to get a license

If by "store your pistol with you" you mean "keep it at home" then that is permitted once you get a license (which will require adequate security verified by the gardai in advance)

If by "store your pistol with you" you mean to carry it then the answer is no. You can carry a firearm to bring it to or from the range or hunting grounds but that is it.
also does anyone know the procedures or if there is any to bring a pistol into/out of the country maybe 2/3 times a year?

Once you have a license for Ireland and a license for wherever you are going to/coming from then there is no problem. Most of Europe is covered by the European Firearms Pass. Some airlines e.g. Ryanair do not allow sporting firearms so check before you buy tickets. Be VERY careful about connecting flights and where the connection is. e.g. you do not want to be checking in a firearm in Heathrow no matter where you came from.
Always assume that youir firearm will come out on the luggage belt. It probably wont but be sure by being their ASAP. It has happened to me.
Most of the time you will need to contact customes to get it but a "small & easil;y portable" case with "firearm" stickers on it going around the carousel is a recipe for disaster.

Appreciated Bananaman for the advice, the storage is purely for home storage, not carrying around.

    .

How many countries in this part of the world allow private citizens involved in private security capacity to carry firearms ?

In the EU itself. These are the places I have dealt with on this issue.

Germany, with great difficulty if you are a private citizen, doable if you are working for a security company that specialises in Personal protection

France, dunno the ins and outs, but allowed

Italy,if you are in or own a regd personal protection/security company,or investigation adency.

    Switzerland

Spain,if you are a regd security company owner/ employee or Private Eye

Most of the East block allow it in some shape or form, depending more or less whom you pay off locally.
