Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Explanatory Note for Succession Act 1965

    Hi all,

I am currently in the penultimate year of my law degree and will be doing the Law of Succession next year. I have just begun to read the Succession Act 1965 for the first time. Basically I am trying to shorten it into my own words so that when I study it next year it will make sense and save me time.

However, I am having trouble getting my head around some of the wording, particularly in relation to administration (S. 21) and the like. I tried to google for an explanatory memorandum but I'm not having any luck. I'm probably just not looking in the right place.

Does anyone have a link for such an explanatory note? If so could I please get it, either through this thread or via PM?

    Thanks,
    dee8839.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean? What exactly are you looking for? Something that goes through each section and explains its purpose?

There are only a few relevant sections of it in the context of the current Irish law. I can assist you over PM.

Yes, that's what I mean. Something to simplify the language of the act somewhat. Which sections are relevant today?

If you have access to a college library, there are specific texbooks dealing with Succession I have no doubt. That's probably your best bet.

You could also take a look at the Restatement of the Act which is perhaps a little clearer in parts.

I'm out on work experience until September so no access to my own college library, although I could try and get into the library of UCD or Trinity since I'm in Dublin. Thanks for the link, much appreciated!
